Haryana’s Nuh district was marred by one of the most severe communal clashes in which apparently six people lost their lives. It has been reported that in the Haryana – Nuh violence these social media groups on WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and Telegram had played a vital role in causing a flare up.

According to the reports in the media, these social media groups asked the mobs to “give it all” for the community during the Nuh. Post the attack, these social media groups were flooded with celebratory posts.

Haryana Violence : Govt does not rule out conspiracy

It was on July 31 that the violent Islamists in a coordinated manner attacked the Shobha Yatra that was taken out by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Viral videos that emerged in the social media showcased that cylinders were placed on the way in a systematic manner. The Islamist attackers hid in the hill top and fired from there with their guns at the devotees who had come to visit Bhgawan shiva’s temple.

At least 2,500 of the devotees were left stranded and in order to prevent them from escaping the fundamentalist Islamists set their vehicles on fire.

Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar had not ruled out any conspiracy in the attack and had added that stringent action would be taken. Similar point was reiterated by Haryana’s home minister Anil Vij.

Administration in action to nab culprits of Nuh Violence

Nuh SP Narendra Bijarnia told the mediapersons that they recovered videos of clashes from these accounts and they are using them to identify the suspects. Also, the Rajasthan Police are also probing similar accounts with numerous followers in Alwar and Bharatpur districts. One of the you tube account in the name of “Ahsan Mewati Pakistani” was responsible for the communal clash in Haryana’s Nuh and in neighbouring towns.

In wake of the complaint that was filed against the you tube channel, it was taken down by YouTube. The now-removed YouTube channel had 273 videos and 80,000 followers and it was mainly spreading misinformation and promoting violence in Haryana.

At least 12 social media groups on WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and Telegram with thousands of followers from across the Mewat region of Haryana and Rajasthan – have been traced back to Pakistan.

These groups not only instigated mobs to “give it all” for the community during the Nuh violence, but were also flooded with celebratory messages after the attack.

Investigators said they were having a tough task with Telegram groups as a majority of these left behind no digital footprints or records. The accounts are under the radar of national security agencies also.
