A number of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and farmers got injured after police baton charged and stopped them while doing a Gheraw of the collectorate office in Narayanpur of Chhattisgarh on Monday August 07. The protest was called over the distribution of poor vermi compost by the Bhupesh Baghel led Chhattisgarh government.

As per the reports the farmers who were anguished by the quality of the compost provided to them by the state government gathered under the banner of BJP for a protest when they were stopped by the police near the barricades put up around 200 meters from the collectorate office. The police tried to stop the agitators who soon got involved in a skirmish with the personnel leaving a number of protestors injured.

In a video posted by the state unit of BJP, the protestors can be seen expressing their anger over the poor quality of the vermi compost distributed by the government owned compost shop. In the viral video a man can be heard saying that ‘you should better check it by yourself whether it is a fertilizer or plain soil.’

pic.twitter.com/9qLk6ppZO7

Meanwhile taking to twitter former cabinet minister of Chhattisgarh, Kedar Kashyap while sharing a few pictures of the injured workers, informed that workers and farmers who were on their way to submit a memorandum against the poor compost forcibly provided by the state government got injured in the lathicharge.

On the one hand farmers are committing suicides due to negligence of the state government while on the other hand this congress government in the name of vermi compost is forcing the farmers to buy poor compost. It’s an injustice done to them, farmers across the state have started an agitation against the poor compost being distributed by the government and the BJP is standing with them.

When we protested against it in Narayanpur the Congress government ordered a lathicharged on the workers and farmers. The Congress government says bring the poor compost if you find it anywhere, this is not the farmer’s work, you are the one who should investigate it, said Kashyap in a video message posted on twitter.

Meanwhile speaking with the Organiser, another senior leader of BJP Kedarnath Gupta said that the same compost with a decent quality is available in the market on a cheaper rate then why there is a compulsion on farmers to buy at least three bags of the poor compost from the government owned shops, they should be free to buy it from anywhere.

The lathicharge on our workers and the farmers is a sign of the barbaric attitude of this government. Tell me, will the farmers of the state act according to the government or do they have a free will to secure what is good for agriculture ? added Gupta.
