In a major crackdown on the Maoists, personnel from the Gallant 142 unit of the BSF were out on a search operation in the Bejangiwada reserve forest area of Malkangiri when they seized a massive Maoist dump during the operation.

The security personnel in the operation seized weapons, ammunition along with the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making materials from the spot while other materials related to the Ultras have also been seized by the personnel.

It’s been reported that the operation was launched following a specific Intel about the Maoist camp in the Kaimela area which led to the seizure of a huge cache of arms and ammunition. The recovery includes as many as 11 barrels, 15 IEDs, 2.51mm mortar guns, a three not three rifle along with a huge quantity of live cartridges.

Further a rocket launcher along with the materials used in IED making such as 29 pieces of gelatin sticks, 5 packets of aluminum nitrate, 30 electric detonators,9 synthetic waist belts were also seized by the BSF personnel from the spot.

It is to be noted that the BSF troops stationed in the Maoist affected regions of Malkangiri district have been carrying out counter-insurgency operations for a long time which has led to the recovery of huge Maoist dumps in the past as well.

Earlier in a similar operation launched early in the month another Maoist dump was busted by the BSF personnel in Marigetta village of Malkangiri, following which as many as 108 pieces of gilletin sticks, 20 hand grenades and 25 electronic detonators were also seized from the spot.

In another counter-insurgency operation launched in March this year the BSF had also busted a similar Maoist dump and recovered weapons, grenades, detonators and empty rocket launcher shells in Taimal area under Swabhiman Anchal, an erstwhile bastion of the Maoist in Malkangiri.

During a recent visit to the state the union home minister Amit Shah praises Chief minister Navin Patnayak efforts towards battling the left wing insurgency along with the centre in the eastern state. It is to be noted that the state shares its boundaries with Andhra pradesh and Chhattisgarh a long held hotbed of the Maoist insurgency.

However due to persistent efforts of the security forces and a stable government in the state it has come a long way in fighting the insurgency.  The situation on ground can better be assessed by the fact that the erstwhile bastions of Maoist in regions like Swabhiman Anchal has been successfully contained in recent years, this comes along with the war level development works such as opening up of Gurupriya Bridge which eased the access of security forces and the local administration to around 22000 people earlier badly affected by the left wing insurgency.
