On July 31, a class 12 student committed suicide after telling her parents about stalker Mohammad Amir in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district. The family organised a sit-out protest and blocked the streets by keeping the dead body on the road. They demanded a bulldozer trial against the accused.

What lead to the suicide?

As per the media reports, the victim was 16-year-old and a student of class 12. She has been identified as Neha Kushwaha daughter of Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha. She lived in the Lateri area, near the Jail building in Vidisha. On July 30, she was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house.

Bhagwan Singh told the media that, on July 30, Neha looked upset over something when he asked she told him and his wife about an auto driver named Amir. She said, he has been following her for days now and tried molesting her as well.

Later, Bhagwan Singh’s wife went to the hospital while he started working in his house. Till then, Nisha was studying. However, when Bhagwan Singh’s wife returned from the hospital, she found, Nisha was hanging from the fan. They rushed to the hospital but by then she was dead.

What did the police say?

A First Information Report (number–264/2023) was registered in this case at the Lateri police station on July 30. Based on Bhagwan Singh’s statement, the accused has been booked under IPC Section 306 (abetment to suicide).

Sharing about the arrest of the accused the Superintendent of Police, Vidisha from his official Twitter account informed that, the accused has been booked under charges of abetment to suicide and the probe is underway. No complaint relating to eve teasing was registered in this case by the family before the suicide, added the SP.

Inspector Rakesh Tiwari told the media that, the accused had been arrested.

The SDPO Ajay Mishra said, other than Amir four other accused have been named in the FIR by the family and the police has detained all of them.

Organiser will update the report as soon as we will be able to access the FIR.

Family demands a bulldozer trial

Nisha committed suicide in the afternoon, after her mother found her hanging from the fan the family took her to the hospital. By 2 pm the doctors declared her dead. Later, the family reached the Sironj square where they sat on a protest with Nisha’s dead body on the street.

There were slogans against the Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the ruling BJP and the administration. The family sat there, protesting from around 2 pm to 10:30 at night.

Meanwhile, the additional Superintendent of Police, Sameer Yadav also met the family and tried to console them. The police took the family’s statement there on the streets only and registered the complaint.

By the night, the dead body of the minor was taken to the morgue to perform a postmortem.

The family called for a bulldozer trial against the accused.

The Hindu activists

Following the demise of the minor Hindu girl, the Hindu activists swung into action. They participated in the protest with the family and also handed over a memorandum under the name of the CM. Demanding action against the perpetrator.

Keshav Sharma, a Hindu Jagran Mach activist while speaking with Organiser said, this is not the only case, since December 23 daughter of Vishansingh Parihar went missing and to date, no recovery has been made. Similarly, In November 2022, the dead body of a minor girl, daughter Mukesh Rajput was recovered from near the railway tracks but the police closed the file calling it a case of suicide. These cases point somewhere else and are undoubtedly the case of Love Jihad. Strict action should be taken against the accused in this case or cases like these will keep haunting the Hindu community in the coming days.

Similar case from the past

Readers may recall this case from Uttar Pradesh, where a minor Hindu girl committed suicide after a stalker followed her regularly on her way to school and back home. Notably, A 17-year-old Hindu girl killed herself on 8 January 2023. Her father alleged that one Rafiq Siddiqui used to torture her for conversion and nikah, hence she committed suicide. The incident is from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

A First Information Report (number—14/2023) was registered at the Madiyaon police station on 9 January 2023 based on the complaint by the victim’s father Santram Sharma.
