Mumbai: The former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s UBT Shiv Sena faction has suffered yet another political jolt as the former Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) corporator Mangesh Satamkar has officially joined the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on July 28.

That makes Satamkar the 14th BMC corporator (whether sitting or former) from Sena (UBT) to add to the tally of those who have chosen to join the Shinde-led Sena.

Satamkar who was formerly the Shiv Sena corporator from Antop Hill area, was welcomed into the Shinde-led Shiv Sena at a function where he also claimed that in his over three decades with the parent Shiv Sena party led by the Thackeray scions, he often lamented the lack of support in times of trouble. Speaking at the function, Satamkar said, “Shinde will support me. I am ready to accept any responsibility given by the CM.”

Eknath Shinde echoed Satamkar’s sentiment and added further that his party has got a good worker. “When a worker is in difficulty, he expects support from the boss. If such support is not given, workers get demoralised,” Shinde said.

is a valuable political asset as he has to his credit three key victories in the Mumbai corporation election – in 2002, 2007, and 2017 respectively. Satamkar has also graced the post of the chairperson of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Education Committee.

Meanwhile, ANI had reported in early May this year that an FIR had been registered against Mangesh Satamkar at Antop Hill Police Station for allegedly raping a woman. The complainant had reported that Satamkar had raped her on multiple occasions on the pretext of marriage. The police had applied several clauses applicable to the FIR but no arrests had been made.

Some media outlets have tweeted that the case has since been withdrawn by the complainant. The 29-year-old lady has written to the police that she was a colleague of Satamkar and the duo had work related brawl, after which she had made the complaint and that the matter has been settled out of court, therefore no further legal action must be taken.
