On July 24, Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh was suspended from Rajya Sabha for repeatedly violating the directions of the chair. He is barred from attending the parliament’s remaining ‘Monsoon session’. Singh has been protesting outside the parliament building following the chair’s decision, demanding a repeal.

With no relief till now, so-called friends (enemies earlier) from the newly formed coalition for the upcoming Loksbha elections, I.N.D.I.A. (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), paid him visits. This morning (July 26), former Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited Singh at the protest site.

Since day one of this newly formed alliance that involves as many as 22 parties, many of whom were once staunch adversaries of each other, has faced backlash. Out of these 22, AAP has been most condemned for their fake ‘Purest Party’ image.

Since morning, #SoniaGandhi is trending on Twitter, along with Arvind Kejriwal and AAP. Notably, another big name who is a part of this debate is the in-famous Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Aditya Nath. He recently called out the coalition on his official Twitter account.

Why is Sonia Gandhi Trending on Twitter?

Since July 26, #SoniaGandhi is trending on Twitter. This is following her meeting with AAP leader Sanjay Singh outside the parliament building. Singh is on a sit-in protest outside the building. He is being condemned for welcoming and greeting those, who were once the flagbearers of corruption for the party.

Other than Singh, one of the founders, Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is also facing backlash on social media for his hypocrisy. He made his whole career in politics out of his protests against Congress. Apart from the demands of the Lokpal bill and the Lokayuktas, Anna Andolan gave birth to this Party.

The same party that was formed on the grounds of eradicating corruption is now forming coalitions with Congress, the most corrupt party in India, as per Kejriwal’s speeches.

Many of these speeches where Kejriwal is condemning Congress are in circulation since yesterday. These videos are circulated with the hashtag Sonia Gandhi in them. Some of these clips and comments by the netizens are listed below:

This is how the netizens react

A video that is getting viral includes Singh’s statement against protests by Congress when Rahul Gandhi lost the status of Member of Parliament. He wrote, “Are Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi bigger than the judiciary of this country? They should stop creating a ruckus in parliament and present their side in front of the court”.

Quoting the same statement by Singh, a verified Twitter user wrote, “Sonia Gandhi should explain to Sanjay Singh that “Instead of creating ruckus and hooliganism in Parliament, present your side in peace”

During the whole Rafel deal controversy, Singh said, “If BJP really wishes to take action against corruption in this country then they should arrest Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, SP Tyagi and others who have their names in the AgustaWestland helicopter deals.”

A verified user sharing the video of Singh wrote, “Look what a day it is! Who used to ask every day to send @SanjayAzadSln @SoniaGandhi_FC to jail is now greeting them with folded hands. Such is destiny! That’s why Modi ji says that all the corrupt have united and that when I take action, they all unite and oppose it. But the public knows that now they do not have much time and one by one they will meet each other in jail.”

How is Kejriwal linked to this controversy?

Since the name of the alliance I.N.D.I.A. is announced, the official Twitter handle of Congress is featuring other party leaders from their official social media handles. On July 18, they shared a video of CM Kejriwal where he is pointing out the corruption done by the Modi government in the past 10 years.

The post says, “PM Modi got a chance to rule the country for ten years and he has made a complete mess of almost every sector. He has created hatred among the people, the economy is in shambles, inflation is at its peak, and there is unemployment in all sectors. It is time for the people of India to get rid of him, so all the like-minded parties are coming together.”

Since then and prominently after the Singh scandal, the old videos of Kejriwal, where he is speaking against Congress, are widely in circulation.

In one such video, he can be seen saying, “Shut down the offices of CBI and ED if you cannot use them properly. Arrest Sonia Gandhi and interrogate her for two days, and everything will come out who has done what”

A verified Twitter user took a screenshot of the post done by Congress and the statement of Kejriwal against Sonia Gandhi writing, “Congress hit its own feet on stone. How is Yogi Aditya Nath linked to this debate?

On July 25, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath called out the newly formed coalition of 22 partied against NDA for the upcoming Loksabha elections. He made it very clear that the alliance is nothing but nonexistent.

He wrote, “Changing your name will not change your game! It’s INDIA Vs I.N.D.I.A.”

Changing your name will not change your game!

It's INDIA Vs I.N.D.I.A.

— Yogi Adityanath (@myogiadityanath) July 25, 2023

Since CM Yogi commenced office, he has renamed a lot of things in the state, be it streets, buildings, or cities, everything having a small linkage with the colonial or Mughal past has been dropped under his leadership.

In his Tweet against I.N.D.I.A., Yogi pointed out that renaming will not work for Congress. Taking on it, a Congress leader did sarcasm with his name. The leader, Pawan Khera wrote on Twitter, “One was Shri Ajay Singh Bisht. Then he started being called Yogi Adityanath.”

This sparked a row between the Congress leader and supporters of CM Yogi. A verified Twitter user wrote, “One was Indira Feroze Gandhi, Then she started being called Indira Gandhi. One was Antenna Mineo, Then she started being called Sonia Gandhi. One was Rahul Vinci, Then he started being called Rahul Gandhi. One was Priyanka Vadra, Then she started being called Priyanka Gandhi. One was Rehan Vadra, Then he started calling himself Rehan Rajiv Gandhi.”

Another user wrote, “Awesome, awesome, long live. @INCIndia You people kept the name INDIA but did not stop licking the feet of an Italian woman, if anyone has any objection to this, then go and see that Sharad Pawar had formed a separate party on the issue that Sonia Gandhi is of foreign origin. So please stop licking her feet.”
