As many as 5500 porn videos of hundreds of girl students of Islamia University located in Bahawalpur, Punjab province of Pakistan, have come to the fore, after which there has been a ruckus in the area. The Acting Chief Minister of Punjab Province, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, has taken cognizance of this, and the police have started suppressing this porn video scandal. The university’s Director, Dr Abuzar, Chief Security Officer Syed Ejaz Shah and Transport officer, Altaf have been arrested till now.

However, the administration of the institute says that all this is being done under a conspiracy against the university students. The police have not only recovered pornographic videos of hundreds of girls from Ejaz Shah but eight gum ‘ice drugs’ as well. As per the reports, there are 113 such students in the university, who have become addicted to drugs. Police say that their target is not the university, but the drug smugglers.

The Raid and Recovery

The police recovered as many as 5500 porn videos from two mobile phones of Ejaz Shah, all of them featuring university girls only. These mobile phones have been seized. It has been revealed that in lieu of giving marks to the girls, they were asked to make nude videos and send them to Ejaz. This was also done for recruitment to any post in the university as well. Police say that a whole group of teachers was involved in drug peddling and sexual harassment of girls.

Not only this but university girl students were also forced to be part of dance and sex parties. Drugs were recovered in large quantities. Indecent parties were held inside the campus with girl students and women employees of the college. A high-level committee has been formed to probe the matter. The Education Department of South Punjab will investigate this. It has been asked to submit the inquiry report in 3 days.

The Police Statement

Dawn quoted, Baghdadul Jadid SHO Abid Hamid saying, the police had searched the car of Ejaz Shah on intelligence-based information. He said the police were active to eliminate drug peddlers from educational institutions.

The Dawn also reached the university spokesperson Shehzad Khalid but no response were made.

Dawn learnt that Syed Ejaz Shah, a retired army major, was employed several years ago in the university by the former vice-chancellor. The IUB website also mentions him as the chief security officer of the university.

Meanwhile, police claimed that two drug traffickers, including a woman, were arrested in Yazman and Head Rajkan for possessing drugs.

They said 1 kilogram 500 grams charas and 20 grams crystal were recovered from Muhammad Sarwar while 300 gram heroin was recovered from Aqeela Zainab.

The Saddar police of Bahawalpur arrested one Jabir alias Shaira and recovered 5.4kg charas from him. The suspects used to supply narcotics in several educational institutions.

On July 22, the Police conducted raids at the University to arrest two other officials on similar charges. The other two arrested persons have been identified as Finance Director Abu Bakar and Transport Incharge Muhammad Altaf. During the investigation, the two also confirmed that they were in possession of drugs and derogatory videos of university women. The two were also booked and arrested by the police under Section 9(2)1 of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997.

University’s Response

“The treasurer confessed that he along with a group of other teachers would purchase and distribute drugs through students and plan dance/sex parties,” the initial investigation report suggested.

Notably, University’s Vice Chancellor Dr Athar Mehboob wrote a letter to IG Punjab Police and denied such allegations completely. It merits here to mention that the VC in its last statement described the development as an “anti-university” campaign.

The letter stated that the cases registered against the university officials were “false” and that a joint investigation team should be formed for a transparent investigation of the matter.

“There is an implicit attempt to defame the university,” it added.

The Aurat March

On July 21, the Aurat March Lahore expressed its dismay over reports of women being “spied on, harassed, and blackmailed” at the university.

“Islamia University Bahawalpur’s ex-head of security was caught with multiple videos of female students and staff on his mobile phones,” the organisation for women’s rights tweeted.
