Mizoram: Ex-Militant group PAMRA issue life threat to Meiteis, ask them to leave the State for ‘own safety’

Meiteis in Mizoram have started fleeing from the state after Peace Accord MNF Returnees' Association (PAMRA) issued a statement threatening them that if something untoward happens to them, then they themselves would be responsible for it.

The safety of the Meiteis residing in Mizoram is at stake after Peace Accord MNF Returnees’ Association (PAMRA) issued a statement which reads “In light of their safety, they will be responsible if something unpleasant occurs to the Meiteis.”

Amid growing tension after the viral video of women torture in Manipur, Meitei community residing in Mizoram are facing threat of life. A former militant group in Mizoram, Peace Accord MNF Returnees’ Association (PAMRA) has asked the Meiteis staying in the State of Mizoram to leave the State for their own safety.

“In light of their safety, they will be responsible if something unpleasant occurs to the Meiteis.” the statement reads.”

Mizoram government swings into action, deploys armed security for safety of Meiteis

In a late-night move on July 21st, the Mizoram Government deployed armed police personnel at various locations in the capital Aizawl to provide security to Meiteis who are in the city, engaged in various professions.

In an internal Mizoram Police order signed by a (DIG) on 21st July said the move has been taken in anticipation of possible tension which could threaten the security of Meiteis living in Aizawl due to the public outrage against the torture of the two women by a mob in Manipur’s Thoubal district, the video of which has since gone viral.

As per the order battalions of Mizoram Armed Police (MAP) and Indian Reserve Police Battalion were deployed in veterinary college in Selesih, Mizoram University in Tanhril, RIPAN Zemakbawk and ZMC Falkwan.

Tension grew in the Northeastern state after Peace Accord Mizo National Front Returnee Association issued a statement condemning the viral video where two women were paraded naked in Thoubal district of Manipur and stated that Meiteis in Mizoram must take care of their own safety.

Post the threat by PAMRA, Meiteis flee from Mizoram

After the statement, Meiteis from Mizoram started fleeing from Mizoram. The Manipur government is in touch with the Mizoram government on this matter. It should be mentioned that there are around 2000 Meitei residing in Aizawl city.

Mizoram University has over 30 Meitei faculty members. It should be mentioned that the Peace Accord was signed in 1986 by MNF with the government of India and the Peace Accord MNF Returnees’ Association (PAMRA) was formed after the signing of the peace accord.
