Imphal: The Manipur Government has decided to provide security to the farmers at the paddy field.
The first meeting of the unified command chaired by the Chief Minister of Manipur has decided to provide security to the farmers who will start the cropping season. The unified command has taken the decision to destroy the bunkers created by militants and armed miscreants in the State and deploy security forces in the vulnerable areas. It was decided at the Unified Command meeting that additional 2000 Manipur police personnel will guard the farmers who will go to the paddy field in the cropping season.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh told media persons on July 3 in Imphal, “I chaired the Unified command meeting and we have decided that bunkers constructed anywhere in the State have to be destroyed. In vulnerable areas state forces and paramilitary forces will be deployed.”
Chief Minister N Biren Singh further said that “For the agriculture purpose the Government has decided to give more security personnel in five districts and its adjoining areas. For Kangpokpi and Churachandpur adjoining areas, Imphal East and Imphal west and Kakching around 2000 police personnel will be deployed additionally.”
Moreover, keeping in view the importance of the matter, the State Government has decided to open the school from July 5 onwards from class one to eight.”
It should be mentioned that in the wake of a series of violence, a unified command structure was set up in the State. The unified command structure chaired by the Chief Minister and State police, Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Paramilitary forces are part of it.
On July 2, in separate incidents, at least three people were killed and five others injured in an attack by armed miscreants in Manipur. The incident took place in Bishnupur district, police said. In the wee hours of July 2, armed miscreants attacked the Khoijumantabi village. Nearly 30 villagers fled from the village, knowing of the deadly attack by armed militants. “Village volunteers” who were guarding the area in a makeshift bunker came under attack from the armed rioters, and three volunteers were killed in the attack, police sources said. Later the bodies of the killed persons were recovered by security forces.
At least five people were injured in the shootout that lasted for several hours. The attacks started at around 3 am and continued till 5 am on July 2. The injured persons were admitted to a hospital in Imphal, police said.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh went to the spot on July 2 to take stock of the situation and interacted with the local people.
Following the clashes at Khoijumantabi village, violence also erupted at the nearby Langza and Chinlangmei villages in the Churachandpur district.
According to reports, a youth was brutally killed in the area by miscreants. Houses were also torched in Langza village.
On the other hand, Kuki volunteers have released five people from the Imphal Valley who were held captive by them. The five people were held captive by Kuki organisations for allegedly trying to spy in Gwaltabi village under the Saikul sub division. Indian Army came to rescue the captives villagers and held talks with the Kuki organisations. After hours of talks and discussions, the five persons were handed over to the Jat Regiment deployed in the area.
On July 3, suspected armed miscreants fired from the adjoining hill range towards Leikinthabi and Chirik villages in Imphal West district. The armed miscreants also burned down some farm houses in the Chirik village.
Clashes broke out in Manipur on May 3 2023, during the solidarity march by the Tribal Students Union against the listing of the Meitei community in the ST list. Over 120 people have lost their lives in the ongoing violence, and more than 45000 people were displaced.
