BJP leader and state cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi was attacked by a man on June 2 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, in the Garhi Cantt area. During his “Jansampark campaign”, the BJP leader was reportedly attacked by a person shouting religious slogans. Online users have been sharing the viral footage of a man named Imran attempting to attack the Minister and then being beaten by the locals.

As per the reports, before attacking the BJP politician, Imran reportedly attempted to rob items from local shops and injured one person with a knife. He attacked a number of shopkeepers at Dakra Bazar, located in the Garhi Cantt area.

Witnesses to the incident told Hindustan that the perpetrator, Imran, also yelled religious slogans, as per the reports. The BJP leader was heading towards Nayagaon when he had to stop at Dakra Bazar after seeing the crowd and commotion of people to find out about the situation. When the Minister stepped ahead to find out, Imran flung a black cap at him and grabbed his clothes.

Following that, he was surrounded and beaten by the people who were present there. Police arrived at the scene in the interim, and the attacker was taken into custody. The attacker Imran belongs to Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh. Two days prior, he had arrived in Dehradun.

Meanwhile, Inspector Sampooranand Gerola of the Cantt police station said that the person had been detained and is being questioned. His parents, who reside in Bijnor, have also been called to Dehradun in the interim.

According to the report by OpIndia, cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi said that Imran attacked him while yelling “Ya Khuda” slogans. The Minister said Imran had assaulted a number of individuals before attacking him and had also been seen waving a knife in the street.

As per the various media reports, Minister Ganesh Joshi remained mute throughout Imran’s beating, but the Minister rejected these allegations and called it “baseless”. According to the Minister, he made the police call and handed over the perpetrator.

When Imran’s family members spoke to Minister Joshi, they told him that Imran suffers from mental instability. The family members allegedly claimed that they used to lock him in a room, but on the day of the incident, he managed to escape.
