Following the well-known “Chai Pe Charcha” campaign, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to host “Tiffin Meetings” to promote social harmony among its cadres and unite them as a collective organisational force.
The concept is primarily rooted in the functioning of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), famously called as ‘Sah-Bhoj’. In the RSS Sah-Bhoj, Swayamsevaks bring food from their respective houses and eat together.
According to the reports, BJP-Uttar Pradesh General Secretary Dharampal Singh first suggested the concept of a “Tiffin Meeting” during the state executive meeting that was conducted earlier this year. He proposed that party members hold their “Tiffin Meetings” while listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio show, “Mann Ki Baat,” which airs on the last Sunday of the month.
BJP will adopt this idea during the ‘Mahasampark Abhiyan’. This ‘Abhiyan’ is a month-long campaign that is going to be held to commemorate nine years of the Narendra Modi administration at the Centre.
As per the media reports, ‘Tiffin meetings’ are planned to be held on different days between May 30 and June 30 in all 1918 organisational divisions of BJP throughout the state. Under the initiative, the office bearers and workers will bring packed tiffins from home to the scheduled venue and eat food together.
According to a senior party leader, all party officials, including MPs, MLAs, and state and regional leaders, are scheduled to attend the sessions. He said, “This infuses a feeling of togetherness amongst the party leaders and workers, brings them closer and inspires them to work as one unit”.
As per the reports, every worker and office-bearer will now be briefed about the organisational action plan in detail during these ‘Tiffin Meetings’.
According to Dharampal Singh, “For the success of the Mahasampark Abhiyan, before May 30, a complete road map has to be prepared for planning and implementation of the plan. For this, district working committee meetings have to be organised in each district on 20 and 21 May and divisional working committee meetings on 22, 23 and 24 May”.
The BJP will start this campaign with the help of its booth-level committees in an effort to strengthen its organisational structure at the grassroots level. A senior BJP leader said, “Work needs to be done to make the organisational structure effective. For this, mandals and booths need to be strengthened by involving all sections of the society”.
