In what can be termed a major success for security forces notorious Maoist accused in hundreds of cases of murder, loot, extortion and more, Indal Ganjhu alias Lalan Ganjhui, surrendered before the Jharkhand police on May 4.
As per the reports, the Maoist leader, who has as many as 145 cases pending against him, turned himself before the authorities in Ranchi on May 4 and vowed not to pursue the path of violence anymore; the surrender took place in the presence of Inspector General of Police (IG) A V Homkar and other senior officials of the security forces.
Ganjhu, a resident of Asrain village under Imam Ganj police station limits of the Maoist-affected Gaya district of Bihar, has been active in the Maoist outfit for over 20 years and has been assigned with the task of reviving the Maoist outfit in the Bihar-Jharkhand bordering area; he has been considered as a top cadre of the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist).
During his association with the prescribed outfit, Indal has more than 140 cases pending against him in different police stations of Aurangabad, Gaya, Palamu and Chatra for which he has been hunted for a long time, a whopping reward of Rs 15 lakh had also been announced on him.
Two Maoist commanders arrested in Bihar
In another significant development on the Maoist front, two seasoned Maoists, including the zonal secretary of the North Bihar committee of proscribed CPI (Maoist), were nabbed from the Saran district of Bihar on May 4.
As per the reports, after getting some credible information about the presence of the Maoist commanders in the Gandak Diyara region of the Saran district, a joint team of Bihar police and STF raided the location and nabbed two wanted Maoist commanders.
One of the nabbed accused has been identified as Rambabu Ram alias Rajan alias Nikhil, a resident of Banjariya village under Madhuban police station limits of East Champaran District; he was active in the Maoist outfit for more than 20 years and had around 40 cases registered against him in different police stations of Muzaffarpur, Saran and East Champaran.
Rambabu is a prime accused in several cases of murder and attack on the police for which he was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakhs; he was also involved in the 2019 attack on police in Gaya SI of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and was martyred. The other accused has been identified as Rambabu Paswan alias Dhiraj; he is a resident of Tariyani police station limits of Sioher district and has been named in more than 30 cases.
It’s been reported that after interrogating the accused, the joint team also raided a few locations in Valmiki Nagar forest under Laukariya police station limits, from where the team recovered two AK-47 rifles along with live cartridges.
Speaking with the media, DIG Champaran range Jayant Kant, while confirming the development, termed it a big success for the security forces. It is to be noted that earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also confiscated Rambabu properties worth Rs 40 lakh in 2021.
