When people think of service, missionaries and their global institutions, schools, and hospitals come to their minds. But the service work done by the Hindu spiritual gurus in the southern parts of Bharat is much more than that of the missionaries,” Said Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Sarsanghchalak, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on April 7, 2023, during the opening ceremony of Seva Sangam of Rashtriya Seva Bharati in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat addressed around 3,000 representatives from over 800 voluntary organisations across India. Ajay Piramal, the chairman of Piramal Group, accompanied him.
Speaking on missionaries, Sarsanghchalak emphasised that Indians should prioritise national service and national security over everything else.
“The Missionary practice always tried to circumscribe the efforts of Indian culture, but there has been several instances where the Indian saints proved them wrong,” Dr Bhagwat said.
“Many underprivileged tribal communities were disallowed from practicing their cultures during the colonial period. Even after gaining independence, these communities did not receive recognition in society due to the absence of government documentation,” said Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat, while talking about Rajasthan’s ‘Ghumantu’, also known as ‘Banjara’ tribe.
“Sangh learned about these sections, and has since worked tirelessly to secure their cultural right and rehabilitation,” he said.
“When everyone in the country is prosperous and healthy, then only Bharat will become Vishva Guru. Through Sewa (Service), we have to make every part of society stronger and the whole world a family. This would be only possible when the work of Sewa becomes a social campaign,” said Dr Mohan Bhagwat.
“As service is a natural feeling of humanity, similarly service is a direct experience of this truth. Therefore, service should be done with this spirit. When service is done with this spirit, it becomes a source of harmony in our country,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ajay Piramal praised Sangh for supporting disadvantaged sections of society and offering them help during times of crisis.
