Nagaland hosts unique G20 conclave of representatives of 60 countries

About 100 Business to Business (B2B) interests have been generated during the G20 business meet at Nagaland capital Kohima.

It is high time to open international borders for enhanced trade and commerce between the North Eastern States and neighbouring countries. This was stated by Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, at Nagaland’s capital, Kohima.

Addressing the media after the inaugural session of the B20 meet as part of G20 deliberations, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said the Central Government is committed to deliver development to the last mile villages.

He said he wished there were enhanced collaborations among educational institutions and the construction of all-weather roads in all villages located in close proximity to international borders.

With more than 250 ethnic tribes domiciled, he observed that diversity was the strength of the North Eastern States. He said the region had now become the centre for investment and partnering with other global business communities and a platform for various collaborations. He said the G20 event was a good platform to showcase the region’s potential to the world and described it as the new engine of growth for India.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the State has, for the first time, seen the convergence of 60 overseas delegates from 27 countries, including delegates from Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Cote D’Ivoire, Cuba, Estonia, Germany, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy. Jamaica, Japan, Nepal, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkiye, the United Kingdom and the United States.

He disclosed that the diplomatic delegations included five ambassadors from Cuba, Iceland, Jamaica, Paraguay and Panama, one deputy head of missions from Estonia and two consul generals from Costa Rica and Germany also attended.

Neiphiu Rio stated that over 100 Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Government (B2G) requests had been generated, including requests for interaction with departments like Tourism, Commerce and Industries, Agriculture, Horticulture, Healthcare and Food Processing.

Reports say the plenary session of the B20 Conference on opportunities for Multilateral Business Partnership in Agriculture, Food Processing, Tourism and Information Technology was held. Financial adviser, North Eastern Council, Gaigongdin Panmei in his address, said that the Inter-Ministerial Team was formed to improve foreign trade with North Eastern Region.

Executive director of Godrej Agrovet Limited, Burjis Godrej, highlighted the booming sustainable oil palm cultivation in the North East Region and the Government’s interest in investment in oil palm cultivation.

Chairman of Echahaba Tea Growers Cooperative Society Limited, Dr Aotoshi, spoke on introducing prospective investors taking advantage of the G20 Summit.

Expressing his perspectives, CEO and Managing Director CubeTen Technologies Private Limited, Haobam Joyremba, highlighted the IT sector, which can be applied in the field of agriculture, finance, education, tourism etc. He also spoke on the ‘Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.’

Founder and CEO of Resham Sutra Private Limited, Kunal Vaid, spoke about the prospects in core sectors in industry perspective session textiles and said that his company was working on improving the lives and livelihoods of rural textile producers across the country and building India’s largest farm.

Ambassador and Consul General, Panama Yasiel Burillo mentioned the similarities between Panama and Nagaland and briefly spoke on how her country was devoted to sustainable development. Congratulating the host, Nagaland, for organising such a beautiful conclave, Ambassador, Paraguay, Fleming Raul Duarte said that there were a lot of similarities between the people of Paraguay and Nagaland when it came to the cultural practices and traditions. He also said that Paraguay was dedicated to promote eco-tourism and extended a warm welcome to the people of Nagaland to visit Paraguay for a cultural exchange programme.

BJP National vice president M Chuba Ao thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary decision to take G20 to smaller States, including Nagaland.

“I feel grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary decision to bring the G20 at our doorsteps.Never in the past such an event in business, trade and economy was hosted in Nagaland. We must admit that without industries, Nagaland cannot grow and without investments the industries cannot be dreamed of. The peace process in Nagaland thus has its own special significance,” M Chuba Ao told ‘Organiser’.
