In a major decision, ‘Shri Anna’ (Millets) will be included in the daily breakfast meals of Army personnel from now onwards, decided the Indian Army. This means Army personnel will be served with Ragi, Bajra, Jowar and others. This iconic decision came after almost fifty years, when the Army personnel will be served traditional meals. Notably, the United Nations declared the year 2023 as the ‘International Millet Year’, and that is why the Government of India has also decided to increase its consumption. In India, these millets have been termed as ‘Shir Anna’. Millets will also be added to the diet of officers serving the Army.

To begin with, the Army personnel deployed at the northern range would be served with these millets as breakfast. The Army has requested the government to include 25 per cent of the authorised entitlement of grains with these coarse grains. The Army will buy the grains as per the demands.

Orders and circulars have been issued regarding the use of coarse grains in Army meetings and events to promote their consumption. These millets will result in more healthy and protein-rich food intake. There will be dedicated corners for these millets at shopping complexes and Army canteens. Also ‘Know your coarse grains’ campaign will be launched in educational institutions.

Notably, the United Nations and the Government of India are promoting the intake of these grains as it has been scientifically proven that these are magical foods. They are healthy, protein and vitamin-rich and control fat. Millets have magical benefits and have proven to be a medicine for many diseases. This is why the government and Army are promoting their intake for security personnel. fulfil the demands of wheat flour.
