Guwahati: 11 years old Muslim girl has become a mother in Assam. Replying to the opposition to the child marriage crackdown by the Assam government in the state assembly, Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma said that 11 years old girl child had become a mother in Assam.

He questions doesn’t feel this pain in the hearts of Congress and AIUDF MLAs, who often talks about the rights of the Muslim population. The man who destroyed the life of the Muslim girl child shouldn’t get the punishment? CM questioned.

He further said, I thought I would get appreciation from the opposition, but rather the opposition stood with those who violated the law by performing child marriage. All who committed child marriage are criminals in the eyes of the law, but sadly the opposition MLAs are standing with those criminals. The Congress party only formulated the act; our government is implementing it, CM mentioned.

CM Sarma further reiterated his government’s commitment to stop child marriage in the State. He said, either depose me from the power or the crackdown against child marriage will continue.

There is no third option. Every six months, there will be a huge crackdown against child marriage in the State, and those who have committed child marriage will be behind bars. Child marriage has to be stopped in the State before 2026. The bulldozer of democracy will run over those criminals, CM Sarma added.

“A total of 4,670 cases have been registered naming 7,142 accused. Already 3,483 persons have been arrested, of which 1,182 are in jail, 2,253 have got bail, and notices have been issued to 48 others,” CM Sarma informed the assembly.

The Assam CM told the assembly that 4,111 incidents of child marriage took place in the State from April 2021 to February 2023. Assam DGP G P Singh informed the media that the police had filed 800 charge sheets in courts, and instructions were given to file a maximum number of charge sheets by April this year.
