Opposition parties have urged the Tamil Nadu Government to hand over the investigation of the rape of a 14-year-old school girl in Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram District, in Tamil Nadu, to the Crime Branch, Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) and arrest all the culprits involved in the most heinous crime.

According to police, a Class IX student in Paramakudi was enticed and tricked into not going to school for a month by a gang and sexually assaulted. When the girl complained of stomach pain, she told her parents when they pressed reasons for tears in her eyes. She told them everything about the untold torture at the hands of lustrous vultures. With some neighbours’ help, the parents petitioned the police seeking action.

When the girl was subjected to a medical examination, the girl was found to be sexually assaulted several times.

It is learnt that the 43-year-old Sigamani, a resident of Paramakudi Vaigai Nagar in Ramanathapuram District, is the 3rd Ward Councillor of Paramakudi City Council in AIADMK. He is also doing real estate business. Kayalvizhi is a woman working in his company. Meanwhile, Kayalvizhi approached the class IX student last December after learning that her parents are in poverty and struggle to pay her school fees.

It is alleged that they told the girl that they would help the girl by telling their boss. Kayalvizhi then took the student to Councillor Sigamani. She took the student to a private hostel at Maruchukattu near Parthipanur on the Madurai-Rameswaram National Highway and raped her several times.

Prabhakaran sexually assaulted the girl during the introduction of Kayalvizhi.

Later, Raja Mohammed from Paramakudi Madhavan town also raped the student several times. He owns a textile shop in Parthibanur and is also involved in the real estate business. It is said that Sigamani, Prabhakaran and Raja Mohammad raped the student continuously since December 28.

It is revealed that both Kayalavizhi and Annalakshmi alias Uma had been acting as brokers to push them into sex work by talking to many people like this. It has also been revealed that the young women were lured by the desire for money and sent to many others in this manner. The murky affairs came to light as an audio clip between the woman and a man over the money surfaced and went viral on social media.

When the girl’s mother asked Uma and Kayalvizhi questions, they threatened her and her daughter with dire consequences if they mentioned the incident to anyone.

Based on the complaint, the police acted swiftly. They arrested Paramakudi AIADMK president and Paramakudi city council member Sigamani, Pudumalar Prabhakar, Raja Mohammad, Kayalvizhi and Uma, leader of Marathamizhar Sena, who are involved in this heinous crime under the POCSO Act. The two women were enticed and duped to agree to sexual relations promising money and others. It is also light that they did not give any money to the girl as promised but forced her to agree to their sexual advances by blackmailing her.

Police have seized the audio and video evidence of the incident and are conducting an intensive investigation. It is said that the number of arrests may increase as some more people are said to be involved.

Opposition parties have demanded that the probe be transferred to the CB-CID and the arrested persons to address the issue’s root.

State Secretary of the Communist Party of the Marxist Communist Party, K Balakrishnan, stated, “The incident of continuous gang rape of a ninth-grade student in a private school in Paramakkudy, Ramanathapuram District has caused shock and pain. The Tamil Nadu State Executive Committee of the Communist Party of India strongly condemns this atrocity to a school child.

Therefore, the Tamil Nadu State Working Committee of the Communist Party of Tamil Nadu urges the Tamil Nadu Government and the Police to immediately transfer the case to the CB-CID, conduct a thorough investigation, and arrest all the culprits.

They have also demanded that the State Government compensate the affected girl. CWC officials said, “the minor girl underwent a medical examination and was sent for counselling. We have also arranged subsequent counselling sessions for her. We were shocked to hear the same from the girl”.

This is similar to the Pollachi and Vannarapettai incidents which are still haunting the memory of the Tamil Nadu people.
