On February 28, Supreme Court Advocate Vineet Jindal has filed a complaint against Khalistani leader and Waris Punjab De’s Chief Amritpal Singh with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) demanding to declare him a terrorist.

Recently, Amritpal Singh declared war against the Government of India as he threatened Union Home Minister Amit Shah with the same fate as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi if he tried to stop the Khalistani movement.

Earlier, on February 23, Amritpal Singh’s supporters broke through police barricades with swords and guns outside Ajnala Police Station in Amritsar. They gathered outside the Police Station to protest against the arrest of Amritpal Singh’s close aide Lovepreet Toofan.

On February 26, in light of the Ajnala incident, former Punjab Chief Minister and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh said if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government cannot handle the law-and-order situation in Punjab, then the Government of India should intervene. He said, “No government can run like this, the way this government is running. The day when the Ajnala incident took place, Bhagwant Mann was sitting in Mumbai with Arvind Kejriwal.”

Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Bittu has said that he received a “threat call of an unidentified caller from an international number”.

Bittu’s personal assistant Harjinder Singh Dhindsa took the call. Dhindsa said that he attended the WhatsApp call from an international number. The caller claimed himself as an aide of Amritpal Singh. The caller threatened that they will kill Bittu in a bomb blast as his grandfather Beant Singh was assassinated in 1995, he said.

Amritpal Singh’s quick rise to fame can be credited to his anti-government, pro-Khalistani propaganda and fascination with Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. In an interview with ThePrint, he called Bhindranwale an “inspiration” and expressed his wish to celebrate Bhindranwale as a “youth icon.” He continued, “We wanted to give the state a message that no matter how evil they portray him as he will always be our hero.”

Often dubbed Bhindranwale 2.0, Amritpal Singh has expressed his willingness to be like Bhindranwale, claiming that it is “what every Sikh wants.” But, he continued, “I am not even equal to dust of his feet.”

Earlier, on January 14, 2022, Supreme Court Advocate Vineet Jindal also filed a complaint against the US-based pro-Khalistan group Sikhs for Justice’s (SFJ) Founder Gurpatwant Singh Pannun with the New York State Police’s Commissioner, Keechant L Sewell, for attempting to wage war among communities, criminal assault, the provocation for rioting, criminal conspiracy against the state of India, a threat to the Prime Minister of India and former Judges of Supreme Court of India.

The complainant Vineet Jindal stated that Pannun announced a USD 1 million reward for blocking PM Narender Modi and removing the Indian flag on Republic Day, targeting the Indian Republic Day celebration. The complaint stated, “Khalistani terror group ‘Sikhs for Justice’ has provoked masses to ‘block’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to remove the Tricolour from the national capital on January 26, 2022, by offering a huge reward.”

SFJ’s anti-India activities are no secret. In 2021, SFJ announced a USD 250,000 reward for unfurling the Khalistan flag on Red Fort during Republic Day. Pannun said, “26th January is coming, and on the Red Fort, there is an Indian Tricolour. Remove the Tricolour on 26th January and replace it with the Khalistani flag.”

After Amritpal Singh’s supporter’s attack on Ajnala Police Station, the SFJ also threatened to storm and target Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to raise Khalistan flags during the G20 foreign minister’s summit.

A video circulated over social media shows the ‘Punjab is not India’ slogan at Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Office Complex at Bagha Purana and Government Polytechnic College, Rode village in Punjab’s Moga district. SFJ has claimed responsibility for the anti-India graffiti. It is pertinent to note that Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was a native of Rode village.

Pannun said, “This message is for the G20 foreign ministers. Punjab is not India. SFJ will storm and target the New Delhi Airport with Khalistan flags.” He continued, “Now is the time that you (G20 foreign ministers) support the Khalistan referendum. You support the Sikh’s rights to self-determination, and you do not recognise India’s territorial integrity because India is not a country but a union of states with a condition. If people do not want to stay with that union, they have the right to vote.”
