Otherwise, an ‘old, rich and opinionated person’ is always better to be ignored if he makes outrageous comments about Bharat and democracy. Still, when he is also ‘dangerous’, we must take his words cautiously. The track record of George Soros compels us to expose him and his commitment to democratic values squarely.
George Soros has not attacked Bharat, Bharatiya democracy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time. In 2020, at the Davos World Economic Forum meeting, he pronounced that “the biggest and most frightening setback (to democracy in the world) occurred in Bharat”, citing amendments to Article 370 and Citizenship Act. A clear sign of ignorance, arrogance and supremacist attitude a person can have. Both the amendments were democratic and meant to extend the Constitutional rights to all citizens without discrimination in Jammu-Kashmir and facilitate citizenship to the persecuted minorities in the neighbouring countries, respectively. He went on to fund the street power against the agriculture reforms bill constitutionally passed by the Parliament to strengthen the open market choices for the farmers – a clear indication that he does not have any regard for democratic institutions or an open society.
As per his recent speech at the Munich Security Conference, Soros hoping to intervene in the electoral democracy of Bharat through his extended hands. His hopes are riding on the market fluctuation due to the Hindenburg report. Like Hindenburg, Soros’s earnings hinge on market volatility as he also deals in short-selling bids. There is nothing wrong in believing, “I was born poor, but I will not die poor”. But his intentions must be questioned when French, Hungarian and Hong Kong fined the same person for manipulations. He has justified the mayhem he has caused in the Asian markets by betting against their currencies by saying, “I am basically there to make money. I cannot and do not look at the social consequences of what I do”, clearly proving to be an evil mind devoid of human values.
One can understand a person defending the ‘open society’ of his conception and detesting nationalism simultaneously after witnessing the Nazi genocide of Jews in his childhood. However, if the same person finds ‘the whole experience of the war during 1944 thrilling and describes it ‘as the happiest year of his life’, he is not normal. The Hungarian Jew fails to understand that the essence of the Hindutva movement lies in spiritual democracy – a guarantee of a truly open and free society. He should read the testimonies of persecuted Jews who got shelter, respect and freedom under the Hindu civilisation to get the idea. The nonagenarian Soros aspires to defend democracy by opposing all kinds of nationalist thinking through his regime change games with money power. In reality, he is paving the way for Islamists or communists, the vouched enemies of open society.
Like Western colonisers, George Soros has an inbuilt contempt towards Bharat and Bharatiya civilisation. He represents all the evils that Gandhiji had articulated about Western civilisation. He would say, “Our civilisation is in danger of collapsing because of the inexorable advance of climate change”, while happily earning out of the same capitalist model that is responsible for the crisis.
George Soros has described himself as selfish while claiming his foundation to be selfless in his book. What can be more hypocritical than this? He ultimately uses his foundation to fulfil his selfish desires, which he cannot do otherwise as a trader and investor. In the name of democracy, like a fascist, he openly exercises intolerance towards anyone who disagrees with his views. Soros’ inspiration is Karl Popper and his book Open Society and Its Enemies. In the seminal work, Popper famously explained the Paradox of Tolerance – “in order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance”. The people of Bharat will show their intolerance to this intolerant hypocrite in a genuinely democratic way.
