Delhi fridge murder case: Sahil killed Nikki in broad daylight, deleted chats from her phone

Sahil Gahlot, arrested for the murder of his live-in partner, has confessed to the police that he murdered Nikki Yadav around 9 am on February 10, 2023. He told the police that after he strangulated Nikki with a data cable, he propped her body in the car’s front seat and put on a seat belt to elude suspicion. He then continued to drive around Delhi-NCR for another 40 kilometers with Nikki’s body in the car.

Sahil picked up Nikki from their Uttam Nagar residence on February 10 and the couple planned to take a trip to Goa. However, when they failed to get the ticket to Goa from Nizamuddin Railway Station, they decided to go to Himachal through bus. Sahil started getting calls from his home, asking about his where about.

According to the police, he said that Nikki found about his marriage which he kept a secret from her, and an argument ensued between the two. According to Sahil’s confession to the police, he strangulated Nikki in a fit of rage after the argument with a data cable, propped up her body in the car’s front seat, with the seat belt on, to elude suspicion. According to reports, Sahil allegedly kept Nikki’s body in the car during his marriage with another woman and then went on to dump the body in his dhaba’s refrigerator.

The police officials also stated that, “Sahil had deleted all the data from Nikki’s phone. The accused knew that his and Nikki Yadav’s chat was big evidence for the police, so he deleted all the data as earlier many times they had quarrels through WhatsApp chat.”

Nikki’s father demands that Sahil be hanged to death for his alleged crime. He said, “All we want now is justice and the culprit should be hanged to death.” He continued, “Our daughter is gone. She is no more. All we want now is justice. The culprit should be awarded the strictest punishment and should be hanged to death for his brutal crime.”

It was earlier reported that Sahil strangulated Nikki on the intervening night of February 9 and 10, 2023, after she confronted Sahil about his engagement and marriage plans, and then stuffed her body in the dhaba’s refrigerator and later went on to marry another girl. This incident was brought to light on Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2023) when Nikki’s body was recovered from the dhaba’s refrigerator.

It is to be noted that the accused did not inform his parents about his relationship with the victim. The accused’s family was pressuring him to get married to another girl, and their engagement and marriage were scheduled for February 9, 10, 2023, respectively. The police have said that the “accused did not inform the deceased about his engagement or marriage plans.”

However, according to the police, the deceased found out about the accused’s marriage, and she confronted him, leading to an argument between the two. As a result, the accused strangulated the deceased in a rage. The accused went to his home and married another girl on February 10, 2023.

This case is a shocking reminder of the Shraddha Walkar case, where the accused, Aftab Amin Poonawalla, allegedly murdered his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar over his affair with other girls. Aftab said, according to the chargesheet, “Shraddha learnt that I had affairs with other girls. She came to know that I used to talk to other girls on Bumble app which led to arguments between us. She had known that I was cheating on her but as we used to drink together, we would solve our issues.” He has confessed, as per the chargesheet, that he “wanted to get rid of her habit of hurling abuses and decided to kill her. I pushed her on the floor and sat on her chest. I pressed her throat until she died. I chopped her body into pieces and packed it into bags.”
