Former village head and a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Hitameta village under Barasoor police station limits of Dantewada was brutally killed by Maoists on February 11.

The incident occurred when BJP supported ex-village head was traveling from Murumwada to Hitameta when a group of five armed cadres of the proscribed CPI-Maoists hacked him to death near Handawada waterfall of Dantewada.

The slain BJP worker has been identified as Ramadhir Aalmi of Hitameta, “he was an ex village head and an active member of the BJP”, confirmed BJP Dantewada District head Ram Attani.

The horrific development comes hours after the national president of the BJP, JP Nadda in a visit to the insurgency-hit state accused the ruling congress government of failing to contain the insurgency.

Nadda who on February 12 visited Sagar Sahu home in Narayanpur and paid tribute to him and said “that it is said to see that a senior colleague like Sagar sahu has been killed brutally, since last month we lost two other colleagues as well, undoubtedly the Maoist menace under the current government is on rise.”

Earlier the BJP president while highlighting the Law and order situation also asserted that it is only the BJP who is capable of eliminating the left wing terror in the tribal dominated state.

It should be noted that this is the fourth incident in a month in which a BJP worker have been killed by the Ultras in a poll bound state, Earlier on February 05 three unarmed cadres of the proscribed CPI- M had dragged the BJP block president of Usur from his ancestral home and brutally hacked him to death when the latter was participating in a wedding of his relative.

In another incident pertaining to the targeted killings of the BJP workers in the state, two armed cadres of the outlawed CPI-M had shot the BJP District vice president Sagar Sahu of Narayanpur at his residence on February 10, Sagar was immediately rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Earlier in a similar kind of incident a BJP worker from Dantewada had met with a fatal accident while taking a walk near his residence, the incident occurred on January 16 when the BJP leader Budhram was taking a morning walk, later his body was recovered near a culvert of Bastanaar.

While the State police SIT later arrested a pickup van driver from Dantewada and claimed that the incident was a road rage killing indeed, the kith and kin of the slain leader termed it a cold blooded murder by the Extremists.

It is worth mentioning that the Ultras have been issuing warning letters for the BJP workers in the State since long, Earlier in a leaflet found under the Kistaram police station limits in Sukma also threatened the BJP workers for dire consequences if the latter would not switch the ideology.

It should be noted that in recent years, the outlawed CPI-M has been on the receiving side of the offensive campaign likes Prahar and Samadhan in the Maoist affected zones of the country, these campaigns running under the direct commands of Union Home Ministry have confined the Maoists in a limited territory who earlier used to control a large chunk of area in the state.

As a result of that, the Maoists who are feeling the heat of these offensives in their own bastion have gone after the workers of the BJP with their all guns blazing.
