Can’t accept demand of separate Tipraland; will open a pandora’s box in the region: NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma

Ahead of the Assembly Elections in Tripura, the ruling BJP has made it clear that the demand for a Tipraland in the State is not acceptable

Guwahati: Ruling BJP is not in favour of separate Tipraland splitting Tripura. After Chief Minister Manik Saha, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made it clear that the demand for a separate State for tribals in the state is not acceptable.

Talking to India Today in Guwahati, Dr Sarma said that accepting the demand will open a Pandora’s box for others also who are raising similar types of demand in the region. Referring to the demand for a separate State raised by the Tipra Motha party of Pradyot Manikya Deb Barman, CM Sarma said that this demand can’t be accepted and whether BJP wins of loses the elections, if Motha sticks to the demand, BJP will not form any alliance with Tipra Motha.

CM Sarma also said that Tipra Motha is demanding a separate state only to grab power. “If you do something in Tripura, that will trigger similar kinds of demands in other states”, he added.

Meanwhile ruling BJP has intensified its campaign in Tripura. Home Minister Amit Shah is campaigning in Tripura on February 6. Home Minister Amit Shah will be addressing three mega election rallies in Santi Bazar, Khowai and Banamalipur assembly constituencies. HM Shah will also hold important discussions with the top party leaders of the State and discuss election strategies. Earlier BJP national president JP Nadda and union minister Smriti Irani and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had campaigned in Tripura.

Tipra Motha has fielded candidates in 42 of the 60 seats for the February 16 election. BJP has nominated 55 candidates, while its ally has fielded IPFT has named 6 candidates. Congress is contesting in 13 seats and CPI(M) in 43 seats. TMC has fielded candidates in 28 constituencies.
