Tripura: BJP steps up attack on Left-Congress alliance, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addresses multiple rallies

Agartala: Giving major momentum to its election campaign in poll-bound Tripura, the BJP has stepped up its attack on the Congress and the communists for coming together by burying their traditional differences.

“The face of the state changed after the BJP came to power. It is the people who made the BJP hero from zero,” said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressing a rally at Kailasahar in Unakoti district.

“The CPI(M) used to claim itself as the saviour of the poor but they are the ones who exploited the poor people for years. They did nothing for the poor,” Rajnath Singh said.

He said the BJP brought development to the state, which had poor infrastructure during the CPI(M) ‘s rule. “Now, electricity, water connections and roads are available as the BJP government is taking all possible steps to speed up development.” he said also maintained that the violence has “stopped” in Tripura as the BJP does not believe in it.

“The CPI(M)-led government did not respect women, but during BJP rule, they are getting respect and benefits,” the Defence Minister said.

Polling for the 60-seat Assembly will be held on February 16. At the same time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda have already addressed multiple rallies in different parts of the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely visit Tripura to address a rally on February 11.

Meanwhile, the report says, “Difference That We Made In Tripura”, brought out by the BJP-backed Public Policy Research Centre, claims that the average income of farmers in the state increased by a whopping 98
per cent.

The report said that in the last five years, health insurance of Rs 5 lakhs was given to around 13.8 lakh beneficiaries worth Rs 106 crores in Tripura. The state government increased the per capita income of people by 76 per cent across households, and over 23,79,000 beneficiaries have been given loans under the MUDRA scheme.

“Under the PM Gram Sadak Yojana, a total of 22,787 km of rural roads has been built in the state of Tripura, connecting 9,834 habitations at the expense of Rs 14,381 crores since 2018”.

Releasing the report, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said during the Congress and Communist regimes, Tripura was a ‘deprived state’.

“But now, under the leadership and guidance of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the double engine government of BJP has taken Tripura towards a prosperous, happy and developed destination. The Prime
Minister gave the mantra of HIRA for the development of North East,” he said about the development of highways, internet, railways and airways.

Sonowal, a former Chief Minister of Assam, also said that in Tripura, the government under Marxists meant deteriorated law and order, ranging from rapes, bandh, strikes, levies from employees and political killings.

But now the BJP government means connectivity, internet, hospitals and corruption-free and development-oriented dispensation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will address two rallies, one in West Tripura and one in South Tripura, on February 8.

The BJP has fielded candidates for 55 seats for the elections to the 60-member Assembly, and the remaining five will be contested by the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT).

In 2018, the BJP-IPFT alliance could capture the power and oust the Marxists from their forte.
