Assam: Huge quantity of banned cough syrup seized; drug peddler Sariful Islam arrested

Guwahati: A large number of contraband drugs were seized in the Nagaon district of Assam. The banned contrabands were seized from a courier service. Drug peddler Sariful Islam was arrested by Nagaon police on February 4 night. Police sources said five cartoons of banned cough syrups were transported to Nagaon via a courier service.

Police based on credible information, raided the courier agency on Saturday night. Five cartoons of banned cough syrups were seized, and the peddler Sariful Islam who went to collect the consignment, was arrested.

As per official, based on specific information, the police team conducted a search operation in the Haiborgaon area in the district and recovered five cartons of prohibited cough syrup bottles from a courier service.

Further investigation is underway. Earlier too, the Assam police seized eight cartoons containing 1280 bottles of cough syrup bottles from a Tripura-bound truck and apprehended a truck driver in the Karimganj district. It should be mentioned that Nagaon police on the basis of a source of information searched the house of one Papu Ali.

Subsequently, 88 plastic vials containing 9.91 gm Heroin, one Scooty and one mobile handset were recovered and seized. Two women drug peddlers namely Juma Begum and Lata Begum were arrested by the police.
