Tamil Nadu Milk and Dairy Development Minister Avadi SM Nasar hit the headlines for hurling a stone at party workers. He was caught on camera on January 24, losing his temper and throwing a stone at party workers, allegedly over a delay in bringing chairs for him at an event in Tiruvallur near Chennai.
He was reviewing the arrangements for an event where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin was to participate on January 25. The Chief Minister is scheduled to speak at a public meeting as part of the DMK’s ‘Veera Vanakkam Naal’ (a salute to martyrs Day) event. The event is to remember those who died during the anti-Hindi agitation. In a video that went viral on social media, the enraged Minister Nasar can be heard yelling at the worker for the delay in bringing a chair for him. In the background, a couple of DMK functionaries with the Minister can be heard laughing.
This was not the first time the Minister was controversial for his actions or statement. Earlier in November last year, he falsely claimed that the Central Government had imposed a Goods and Services Tax (GST) on milk, causing milk prices to rise in Tamil Nadu. But the State Government led by MK Stalin raised the milk price. He said, “The Union Government has also imposed GST on milk. It is an unprecedented occurrence. As a consequence of levying GST for milk, the selling price of milk has gone up”. There was no immediate response from the Minister, SM Nasar, or the ruling DMK over the issue.
However, BJP Tamil Nadu unit president K Annamalai alleged the Minister threw stones at people. “In India’s history, has anybody seen a Government Minister throwing stones at people?” he tweeted. He uploaded the viral video on his micro-blogging page, saying, “Throwing stones at people in frustration. No decency, no decorum & treating people like slaves! That’s DMK for you,” he added.
Senior AIADMK leader and Former Minister D Jayakumar also said, “that is the Dravida model,” alluding to Chief Minister M K Stalin’s oft-repeated statement on his model of Governance.
Recently CM Stalin lavishly praised the Minister in a public event, saying, “I want to point out that our friend (Minister Nasar) can complete the given task successfully and earn the appreciation of all. Whatever he does, there will be an element of magnificence and grandiose manner”.
In an event organised by AG Church in Tiruvallur District on the occasion of their prayer tower’s 40th year of establishment in August 2021, in which Pastors from many different denominations attended, Minister Nasar said, “Those who ruled at the centre and state earlier brought many welfare schemes for the wellbeing of the minority communities. They ruled in such a manner that minorities faced no problems. But in the past seven years’ minorities were subjected to many hardships. As an effect of this, the current rule will come to an end. Only because of the strength of the prayers of the Christian community has there been a change of rule in the State. DMK has come to power thanks to the power of the prayers of the Christian community. Their prayer has such a power”.
Another senior Minister, KN Nehru, also landed in trouble. Today, a complaint has been filed at Trichy Municipal Police Commissioner’s office led by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s minority cadres, State Vice President Basha.
In it, ‘DMK Minister KN Nehru has humiliated Trichy 54th Ward Member of Parliament, Pushparaj, who belongs to the minority elected by the people, by beating him publicly. We strongly condemn this on behalf of the minority wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Also, the complaint said that immediate action should be taken against Minister KN Nehru under the Atrocities Act.
