A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured in Sikra, West Bengal, in an attack by four ‘Bangladeshi smugglers trying to enter the Indian territory. The incident took place on January 17 in the Sikra, Krishnanagar sector of south Bengal.
The smugglers attacked the BSF soldier with sharp weapons, which resulted in injuries to his head and hand. Before the BSF jawan could gather up, the Bangladeshi smugglers snatched his weapon and fled towards the Bangladesh border.
Upon getting the information about the attack, another BSF jawan came to rescue the injured jawan. An FIR has been lodged at the Chapra Police Station regarding the same.
The incident happened on January 17, morning when Bangladeshi smugglers tried to enter India illegally, the BSF said. “Brave CT Ram Pratap Tetarwal @BSF_SouthBengal got severe injuries on the line of duty while fighting with smugglers in the bordering area of Distt Nadia (WB),” the BSF-South-Bengal tweeted.
The injured soldier was given first aid at the BSF border post and was later taken to a nearby government hospital in Chapra. Later, the doctors referred the wounded soldier to Kolkata, as the critical condition was critical.
Sanjay Kumar, DIG, Krishnanagar sector, said, “When smugglers and people with criminal intent are not successful in illegal activities across the border, they attack jawans. Our jawans are attacked in a planned manner, still, they (soldiers) do not let their plans succeed.”
Meanwhile, the BSF has conducted a flag meeting with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to catch the smugglers.
