A man claiming to be a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang made threatening calls to the office of Union Road Transport Minister minister Nitin Gadkari at Khamla in Maharashtra’s Nagpur thrice on January 14, 023 and asked for Rs 100 crore.

The caller was identified as an inmate of Belagavi jail in Karnataka and threatened to blow up the office if the amount was not paid.

Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “There were three calls demanding Rs100 crore from the minister made by a caller, who claimed to be a member of Dawood Ibrahim gang.”

Amitesh Kumar confirmed that the caller identified as Jayesh Pujari was a murder accused currently lodged in Belgavi Prison.

“He’s currently being interrogated in jail. His motive behind making the calls is still not clear,” the officer said.

On January 2023, A threat call was received at the office of Union Minister of Road and Transport Nitin Gadkari in Maharashtra, the Nagpur Police said. An unknown person called thrice and threatened to kill Gadkari. The unknown caller also threatened to blow up Gadkari’s office.

The police are investigating the case after Gadkari’s office has filed a complaint. “Speech analysis of the caller is being done,” Rahul Madane, Deputy Commissioner of Nagpur Police, said.

According to the police, the office received the threat calls at 11.25 am, 11:32 am, and 12:30 pm on a BSNL landline number. The first call was made at 11.25 am, the second at 11.32 am, and the third at 12.32 pm.

The cyber cell and the Nagpur police have begun an investigation. The security of Nitin Gadkari and his office in Nagpur has been beefed up following these threatening calls.

Nitin Gadkari is currently in Nagpur for the Makar Sankranti festival. Gadkari is one of those ministers of the Modi Government who is known for his work. A further investigation, like the caller’s identity and antecedents, is awaited.
