Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has warned cinema hall owners against the screening of “The Legend of Maula Jat,” a Pakistani film which was up for release in Maharashtra on December 30. This would be the first Pakistani film to release in India in a decade.

Various cinema establishments, including Zee Studios, Movietime Cinema, August Entertainment, and Tilak Entertainment received the letters from MNS stating their vehement opposition to the proposed release.

The letter mentioned, “It has come to our attention that the film “The Legend of Maula Jat,” produced in Pakistan and starring Pakistani actors, is being deliberately planned to be released in Maharashtra soon”.

Further adding to “We do not need to point out how Pakistan is constantly carrying out anti-Indian terrorist activities. Many of our soldiers, police forces, as well as citizens have been killed in these terrorist actions. Although we have been protesting against it from time to time, we are urging you not to release this Pakistani film in Maharashtra” said MNS.

Earlier in the month, a similar case was reported when a Pakistani-based OTT streaming platform Vidly TV, was banned in India with immediate effect, for the dissemination of anti-India content by the Union Government on December 12.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) under the new IT Rules, 2021 gave orders to immediately block the platform’s website, two mobile apps four social media accounts and one smart TV app.

In the past few months, the Ministry issued orders to block 45 videos on 10 YouTube channels for being detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
