The arrests of BJP and Hindu outfit men has once again proved blatant partisan attitude of Dravidian stock government. Their only crime was condemning former union minister Andimuthu Raja’s comments on Hindus and manusmirti. But despite complaints all over the state seeking action against A Raja, the police is focused instead on BJP.

The repugnant 2G scam fame A Raja has taken times tested Dravidian and missionary tool of dividing Hindus by villainizing Tamil Brahmins and pitting other Hindu communities against them. Speaking at the ‘Mupperum Vizha’ of the DMK, he singled out and targeted the Tamil Brahmin community saying that they are ‘Sanatana Hindus’ while other Hindu communities like Gounders, Vanniyars, Thevars, Chettiars, Nadars are ‘Saamaniya (ordinary) Hindus’.  Raja said”Gounder isn’t angry, Chettiar isn’t angry, Naidu isn’t angry, Nadar isn’t angry, Vanniyar isn’t angry. Who is angry? Avaal (Brahmins)”. Avaa/Avaal is a Dravidian Stockist term used to stereotype and slander Tamil Brahmin community.

The 2G scam tainted Raja claimed “while science and ‘Dravidian Movement’ has broken caste-based professions, the last vestiges of Brahminical forces still remains in temples. Brahmins usurped lands of Mukkulathors (Thevars), Paraiyars, Pallars, during Chola times as Chaturvedimangalam villages and went on to imply that Tamil Brahmin community people are ‘freeloaders”.

Raking up the Aryan invasion myth, the DMK MP said “Getting everything for free and squatting here coming from distant lands ruling in the name of religion, today you are saying there should be no freebies. You call us enemies of Hindus. I am not able to understand. For the past 100 years in Tamil Nadu, you Brahmins, if any good has happened to Hindus, if not for us – the Dravidian Movement, tell me who else is the reason for it!”.  He said “In 1951, when reservation for the backward classes was brought, not for the depressed classes who were given reservation by the British… when reservation for Mukkalthors, Nadars, Vanniyars, Chettiyars, Kongu Vellala Gounders, Naatu Gounders, Mudaliars, was brought who stopped it? They are all Hindus right?. When demand for reservation was made for these 50% Hindus, who are those two Brahmins who went to court to deny it? They are also Hindu right?”.

Raja thundered “From now on let’s peddle that there are two Hindus. So from today, Sanatana Hindu (referring to Tamil Brahmins) is our enemy. The cursed ordinary Hindu –  who was oppressed by caste, who lived as an oppressed and depressed without education and literacy, the one who was made a slave for hundreds of years, the one who was protected by Periyar, Anna, Kalaignar, Dravidian Movement – to these cursed ordinary Hindu, we are everything. Yes, we are Hindus not in your sense”.

“They’re threatening to file a case on me saying that I’ve made defamatory remarks. I am waiting for that day. Come, put a case on me. By reading your Manusmriti and Bhagavad Gita, if I don’t expose you by peeling your skin, I am not Kalaignar’s son”.  He implied that he will quote verses from Bhagavad Gita in court to justify his stance.

Earlier while speaking at an event organized by Dravida Kazhagam, Raja said “You’re a Shudra till you remain a Hindu. You’re a son of the prostitute till you remain a Shudra. You’re a Panchaman (Dalit) till you remain a Hindu. You’re an untouchable till you remain a Hindu. How many of you wish to stay as children of prostitutes? How many of you wish to remain untouchable? Only if we’re vocal about these questions, it will become elemental in breaking Sanatana (Sanatana Dharma).”

BJP and Hindu outfits are filing cases against Raja for his comments. After his nasty comments snow-balled into a controversy with local Hindus in his constituency Nilgiris and adjacent regions downing the shutters of their businesses as a mark of protest.

The police, instead of arresting him, is now targeting BJP and its leaders who condemned his speech. BJP Coimbatore president Balaji Uthama Ramaswamy was arrested on 21st on charges of making derogatory remarks against EV Ramaswamy Naicker and DMK Nilgiri MP A Raja.  During a protest he alleged to have made some comments. Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam lodged a complaint and on that basis police took action. Before his arrest, Uthamaramaswamy said “DMK misusing its power, instead of reining in Raja for his objectionable speech against Manusmirthi, government has arrested me. I stand my statement and will not retract.  Police booked him under SC/ST act. Police arrested over 500 BJP workers who protested against his arrest. In Tirunelveli, Hindu Munnani leader Balraj was arrested for condemning Raja.

TN BJP chief Annamalai said party cadre who criticize Raja for his ‘controversial comment on Manusmirti are being arrested on charges of causing social unrest. He wondered how the controversial remarks of Raja would not create social unrest whereas the condemnation of those remarks by BJP cadre would. He said that police were foisting cases against BJP cadres.

Police arrested BJP IT wing member Krishnakumar Murugan, Philip Raj, Sathyanathan, Siva Gurunanthan for pasting posters against CM Stalin.
