NIA file chargesheet against 8 Islamic jihadis including a Bangladeshi, their aim was to create Islamic State in India

Out of the eight accused, against whom the charge sheet has been filed, six hail from Barpeta district in Assam and one from Tripura. The main mastermind of the network Saiful Islam alias Mohammed Harun alias Mohammed Suman is a Bangladeshi national.

GUWAHATI: Bangladeshi terrorist with the help of terrorist organisations like Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) are running jihadi network in Assam aiming to form Islamic state in India. The national investigation agency (NIA) mentioned this in their chargesheet filed in special court on Tuesday, against as many as eight  jihadis, who were arrested in the state .

This charge sheet filed by the NIA is the first in connection with the arrests made by the police in Assam in March 2022 for links with jihadi activities backed by Bangladesh based terror outfits.

Out of the eight accused, against whom the charge sheet has been filed, six hail from Barpeta district in Assam and one from Tripura. The main mastermind of the network Saiful Islam alias Mohammed Harun alias Mohammed Suman is a Bangladeshi national. He was working as a teacher in the Dhakaliapara madrassa in Barpeta district. After the arrest of these terrorists by Assam police, the case was handed over to NIA in March 2022. NIA registered a case 2/2022 and started investigating the jihadi network in Assam. Mohammed Suman is a resident of Narayanganj in Bangladesh and he entered Assam via West Bengal in 2019 and started jihadi activities in the state covering himself as an Arabic teacher in the madrassa, mentioned in the NIA chargesheet.

The accused named in the charge sheet are: Saiful Islam alias Mohammed Sumon, Khairul Islam, Badshah Sulaiman, Naushad Ali, Mamunur Rashid, Imran Hasan, Mukbul Hussain and Mufti Sulaiman.

37 people have been arrested by the police in Assam from different parts of the state on charges of having links with Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
