Khalistani Sympatziser Simranjit Singh Mann beats his AAP rival Gurmail Singh by a margin of over 7,000 votes from the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat after a close fight between the two nominees.

Simranjit Singh Mann, 77, is a former MP and the president of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar). Congress candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy, BJP’s Kewal Dhillon and the Akali Dal’s Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana were at the third, fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

The Khalistani Sympathiser Mann will enter the parliament after 18 long years. He has been a two-time MP, once from Taran Tarn in 1989 and once from Sangrur in 1999.

He is still a Khalistan proponent as vociferously as he was before. He first made headlines after resigning from the Indian Police Service, protesting against Operation Bluestar in June 1984.

It is to be noted that both Sidhu Moosewala and Deep Sidhu were deeply influenced by Simranjit Singh Maan’s ideology.

Rtd. Army Veteran Jaibans Singh while speaking to Organiser said, Simrajit Singh has always been a Khalistani supporter, he has been an MP twice and was allowed to enter the parliament because he was carrying a sword with him, this will be a thing to watch what he will do this time. This bypoll election was fought of issue of Bandhi Singh.

He further said that the people of Punjab are already fed up with AAP govt within a few months only, BJP’s Kewal Dhillon has performed extremely well, he got more votes than the Akali Dal Candidate and almost equal to Congress’s Dalvir Singh. The acceptance of BJP and RSS in Punjab is on rise, he added.

There was a lot of anger among Punjabis at the killing of famous Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala on May 29, after the AAP government withdrew his security cover. Moosewala’s fans openly blamed the AAP government for his killing. This may be one of the reasons why ‘Sangrur’, the safe heaven of AAP from where CM Bhagwant Mann was a two-time MP, has gone into the hands of a Khalistani Sympathiser.

The bypoll was necessitated due to the resignation of Bhagwant Mann from the Lok Sabha seat after he was elected as an MLA in the state assembly elections earlier this year. The bypoll was the first major electoral battle after the Aam Aadmi Party’s resounding victory in the state assembly polls in March this year.
