Guwahati: PFI’s connection with dangerous Islamist terrorist outfit Al-Qaeda has been revealed in the Assam police investigation. Former PFI leaders are running the jihadi network in Assam, which is patronised by the ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT)’, the Bangladesh chapter of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). Assam police Special Branch ADGP Hiren Nath revealed Assam police registered a case on April 15 this year in Barpeta district after the arrest of 16 jihadis of the ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT)’ in various operations by Assam police in Barpeta and Bongaigaon district. 4 jihadis were also arrested from Tripura in a joint operation by Assam and Tripura police.

One of the arrested jihadis of the terrorist outfit ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT)’ was Moqibul Hussain. During the interrogation, Assam police came to know that the arrested Moqibul Hussain was the Barpeta district president of PFI. He was actively working for the PFI, and later on, he resigned and joined the Bangladesh-based terrorist group ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT)’. Moqibul was trained by another terrorist and Bangladesh national, Mehdi Hasan, ADGP Nath, said.

PFI’s Assam state general secretary Rabiul Hussain also confirmed when asked by media that Moqibul was an active member of the PFI before joining the Islamist terrorist group ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team’.

Assam police sources said that NIA is now investigating the Jihadi network case in Assam, and Assam police transferred all evidence and documents related to the case to NIA. It should be mentioned that Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has clearly indicated that PFI’s hand was established in a police investigation in the recent arson case of Batadrava police station by a violent mob and in the violence of the September 2021 Gorukhuti eviction.
