New Delhi: About one crore people from 2,397 villages of five districts including Navsari in Gujarat are expected to get the benefits of a mega world-class health facility set to be launched on Friday, June 10.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday will lay the foundation stone for the new GMERS Medical College in Navsari.
In the last five years, the Central Government has approved nine medical colleges in Gujarat, including AIIMS Rajkot.
“This new medical college at Navsari will boost healthcare infrastructure and benefit the population of one crore residing in Navsari and the surrounding five districts. We will complete this project by 2024,” Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said.
“We are equipping Government hospitals in the state with world-class technology and robust healthcare facilities. I am grateful to the Honourable Prime Minister for approving nine new medical colleges in Gujarat during the last five years,” he said.
Spread over an area of 20 acres, this new medical college in Navsari will be constructed at a cost of Rs 542.50 crore. Apart from the cost of building the college, the Government of Gujarat, whose target is to complete the construction of this building by 2024, will additionally spend around Rs 74 crore to provide medical instruments, equipment, and other hardware.
Providing technical details of the new medical college, Manoj Agarwal (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Gujarat said, “This medical college has been developed as a Tertiary Care Hospital with a facility of 446 beds. The entire building will be equipped with modern facilities including nine Minor Operation Theaters; seven Intensive Care Units and six Dedicated ICU beds of a total of 30 beds”.
This medical college will also witness the recruitment of new 725 medical staff which comprises 125 doctors and about 600 nurses and other technical staff.
In addition, every year, around 100 students will be able to pursue MBBS from this college.
The number of MBBS seats from 5800 in Gujarat has been increased to about 6,500 doctors, officials said.
