It has been more than 48 hours since propaganda website Alt News’ co-founder Islamist Mohammed Zubair dog whistled fellow Islamists to issue rape and death threats to BJP National Spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The rape and death threats have been pouring in continuously since then.

In a message to Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana on Friday (May 27), Sharma wrote “I’m being bombarded with rape, death and beheading threats against my sister, mother, father & myself. I’ve communicated same to Delhi Police. If anything untoward happens to me or any of my family members, please note wholly & solely Mohammed Zubair is responsible who instead of ‘fact-checking’ peddled a fake-narrative to vitiate the atmosphere, cause communal disharmony & cause communal & targeted hatred against me & my family.”

On Friday (May 27), Mohammed Zubair posted an 85-seconds long video of the Times Now TV debate with the comment “Prime Time debates in India have become a platform to encourage hate mongers to speak ill about other religions. Times Now anchor Navika Kumar is encouraging a rabid communal hatemonger & a BJP Spokesperson to speak rubbish which can incite riots. Shame on you Vineet Jain.”

Sharma was only quoting Quran and Hadith on the show. After this dog whistle by Islamist Zubair, fellow Islamists started sending rape, death and beheading threats to Sharma.

Threatening Sharma, Sharjeel Usmani wrote “Nupur Sharma will be brought to justice, this day or in days to come. Hindu right won’t enjoy the impunity forever. I have only love and admiration for Mohammed Zubair for the inspiring work he does. In absolute solidarity!”

The less sophisticated ones were writing “Gustakh-e-Rasool Ki Ek Hi Saza, Sir Tan Se Jooda, Sir Tan Se Jooda (call for beheading).”

In a threatening message, Islamist Shadab Chauhan wrote “I saw video clip of Times Now where BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma was using derogatory remarks on our beloved prophet Muhammad (S.A), we demand Delhi Police to take immediate action against her. Our prophet our hero, our ideal, our leader. We can’t tolerate it at any cost.”

Many people feared for life of Nupur Sharma. Commentator Harsh Madhusudan wrote “I think Nupur Sharma should be given top security. If it is difficult to justify for whatever reason, then give her a promotion. Make her a minister – do whatever is required. But she must live and live fearlessly. Enough with this intimidation 75 years after Partition. Enough.”

Taking note of the threats to life of Nupur Sharma, the National Commission for Women (NCW) asked the Delhi Police to immediately file FIR against all those threatening Sharma. In a post, the NCW wrote “The NCW has taken cognizance of the matter. Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to Delhi Police Commissioner to file FIR against all the accused who are threatening Ms. Nupur and her family & to arrest them immediately. The NCW has also sought round-the-clock police security for the family.”
