Yogi, Uddhav Thackeray, Jagan Reddy in Inter State Council panel headed by Amit Shah

The Central government has announced the fresh composition of the Standing Committee that includes 13 and is headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah as the Chairman.

Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, Bihar – Nitish Kumar, Maharashtra – Uddhav Thackeray and Uttar Pradesh – Yogi Adityanath are other among the Chief Ministers in the newly constituted Standing Committee of Inter State Council.

The Central government has announced the fresh composition of the Standing Committee that includes 13 and is headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah as the Chairman.

Chief Ministers Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gujarat Bhupendra Patel, Odisha Naveen Patnaik and Punjab Bhagwant Mann also find berth in the key panel.

The Ministry of Home stated about the new composition in its gazette notification issued on Friday, May 20.

The recast of the panel is done with the approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a source said.

The Prime Minister is the chairman of the Inter-State Council.

Besides Shah, the committee comprises four other ministers from the Union cabinet and eight Chief Ministers.

Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar, Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat are in the panel as members. .

The Standing Committee will have continuous consultation on the matters for consideration of the Council. It processes all matters pertaining to Centre-State Relations before they are taken up for consideration in the Inter-State Council.

The committee also monitors the implementation of decisions taken on the recommendations of the
Council and considers any other matter referred to it by the Chairman or Council.

The Standing Committee also is empowered to invite experts and persons eminent in specific fields to have the benefit of their views while deliberating upon the related subjects, sources said.

The Article 263 of the Constitution provides for the establishment of an Inter-State Council which is
mandated to inquire into and advise upon disputes which may arise between states, investigate and
discuss subjects in which some or all of the states, or the Union and one or more of the states, have
a common interest.
