President Kovind to pay visit to Jamaica & Saint Vincent and Grenadines

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind will pay a week-long state visit to Jamaica and Saint Vincent and the  Grenadines commencing May 15. The visit will continue till May 21.

This would be the first visit by the Head of State of India to these two countries and is reflective of a
commitment to ‘Small Island Developing States and CARICOM’,” Saurabh Kumar, Secy (East) in the
Ministry of External Affairs said.

He said Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has around 7,700 people of Indian origin who are well integrated into the SVG society.

Mr. Kovind will  be in Jamaica from 15th to 18th of May where he will hold delegation level talks with his counterpart, the Governor General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen. He will also meet Prime Minister,
Andrew Holness and other dignitaries.

During the visit, the President will address the Joint Sitting of the two Houses of Jamaican Parliament.

Jamaica and India have friendly relations. Jamaica is also one of the Girmitya countries with a
70,000 strong Indian diaspora, which acts as a living bridge with India.

The visit comes at a significant milestone as 2022 is the 60th anniversary of the establishment of
diplomatic relations between India and Jamaica.

Mr Kovind will also pay a state visit to St. Vincent & Grenadines from May 18th to 21st and hold
discussions with his counterpart Governor-General Ms. Susan Dougan.

President Kovind will also meet Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves as well as other dignitaries.

President Kovind will address the House of Assembly of SVG also.
