Muslims attacked multiple Ram Navami celebrations across the country. NDTV Editor Sreenivasan Jain blamed Hindus for provoking Muslims into attacking the processions.

He also suggested that the processions should not have passed through ‘Muslim areas’ and celebrating Ram Navami provoked Muslims.

In a social media post on Monday (April 11), Sreenivasan Jain said, “Multiple reports + videos indicate that one persistent trigger for this latest wave of violence was Ram Navami processions playing provocative music/raising slogans while passing through Muslim areas. And yet, ‘clashes’.”

Further mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jain said, “Weren’t we told India had turned riot-free after 2014?”

Despite repeated requests, Jain did not explain what he meant by ‘Muslim areas’ and why no procession should pass through such areas.

As reported by the Organiser, Ram Navami, a celebration to mark the birth of Prabhu Shree Ram, was celebrated across the country on Sunday (April 10). Many celebrations, from North to South & East to West, were attacked by Islamists.

The comments by Jain infuriated netizens.

Criticising Jain for insensitive and outrageous comment, writer and commentator Ratan Sharda said, “Of course, Hindus are responsible. What right do they have to celebrate the birthday of their Ram ji? Don’t they know there is frightened “minority” who tells the Kafirs – La ilahi illilah 5 times a day and is ready with stones on their terraces? Secularism is onus of Hindus.”

Another Twitter user Rose said, “They just have to trivialise ANY attack on Hindus. Now Sreenivasan Jain Blaming Hindus only for celebrating Hindu Festival. Had this Stone Рelting on Ram Navami procession happened on Мuharram procession, NDTV wud have blackened screen & Muslins in Danger would be trending on Twitter.”

Some netizens also asked Jain to explain what he means by ‘Muslim areas’.

Earlier, ThePrint columnist and Hindustan Times Editor Vir Sanghvi had tacitly supported the lynching of Muslims who support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In his column on April 7 at ThePrint, Sanghvi had called Muslims who support BJP as “odd, morally empty” Muslims.
