A new avatar of jihad has come to light, which shocked everyone in Tamil Nadu. An adopted Muslim father and his two sons are arrested for raping a 17-year-old college-going girl for more than three years.

According to police, S Sherif (64) and his wife Jameela (58) had illegally adopted a one–year–old girl–child in 2005, as the couple did not have a girl child. The family had three sons, Imtiaz, Irfan and Haneef. H

Harrowing days began for the hapless girl after she attained puberty when she was 15. Her foster father, sheriff and his three sons began to sexually assault the minor girl and threatened her not to divulge it to anyone. When the victim brought it to the notice of Jameela, she advised her to cooperate with them and started ignoring her complaints. The girl shared her sexual torture with one of her biological brothers. She told him about the sexual abuse she had been undergoing and left the foster parent’s house a month ago, fearing they might harm her. The victim, left with no option, complained to Rayapettah all-women police station. She revealed the ordeal to the police in detail. Acting on her complaint, the police arrested Sheriff Jameela and their sons Imtiaz, Irfan under the POCSO act. Hunt is for Haneef, who has gone underground. The victim has now been sent to a government home for counselling, and a medical examination would be done as per the procedure, said police.

The girl, in her statement to the police, said, “My mother died after a few months of my birth. I also lost my father. I have one sister and two brothers. They could not raise me and gave me to the Sherif family. I saw them as my father and mother when I started understanding things. They had showered love and affection. They joined me in a leading convent and treated me as their own daughter. But my foster father raped me in 2020 and threatened me not to reveal it. On knowing my father’s sexual acts, my foster brothers too on their part started sexually attacking me. They are all married men. When I told this to my foster mother with tears, she told me that everything happens with her knowledge and adjusting with their desires would be safer for me. When I became pregnant, Sherif took me to a private hospital and by medical termination process , they did an abortion. Even after that, all four continued their assaults belying my thinking that they would not trouble me after abortion. During a tele-conversation, I narrated my ordeals to my sister. She advised me to approach the police. Such things should not happen to any girl”.

Police are planning to produce her before a magistrate to record her statement. The victim is now in her sister’s care, sources say.
