NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg also told China to not support Russia economically or militarily.

New Delhi: NATO has issued a strict message for China to condemn Russia and should not support Moscow economically or militarily.

"Our message to China is that they should join the rest of the world and condemn the brutal war against Russia and should neither support Russia economically nor militarily," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg categorically stated.

The remarks came on a day Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi landed in Delhi for a possible meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval.

Jens Stoltenberg further said NATO is also concerned because Russia might use the pretext of 'NATO preparing for a biological attack' to carry out the same in Ukraine.

"If it happens, it'll change the nature of the conflict. It won't just affect Ukraine but also NATO countries," he said.

He maintained that NATO allies have agreed to supply weapons to Ukraine to tackle such attacks. "We have activated our chemical, biological, and nuclear defence elements," said Stoltenberg.

India abstains at UNGA voting

India on Thursday (March 24) yet again abstained in the UN General Assembly on a resolution by Ukraine and its allies on the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn country.

The 193-member General Assembly resumed its 11th Emergency Special Session on Ukraine and voted on a draft resolution, 'Humanitarian consequences of the aggression against Ukraine' by Ukraine and its western allies.

India had previously abstained on three occasions in the UN Security Council and once in the General Assembly on resolutions on Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Both New Delhi and China have been abstaining from voting at the United Nations. Of course, for a resolution piloted by Russia on Wednesday, Beijing also had voted in favour of it along with Moscow.

The resolution was adopted with 140 votes in favour, and there were 38 abstentions and five voted against.
