The Kashmir Files, a movie about the genocide of the Kashmiri Pandits, was released in theatres on Friday (March 11).
Four days since The Kashmir Files was released in theatres worldwide, the demand is growing louder for the commission to investigate the genocide of the Kashmiri Pandits. The Kashmir Files, a movie by director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, is the story of the genocide of the Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley.
Media personality and the Bharatiya Janata Party leader Savio Rodrigues requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to set up an inquiry commission to investigate the genocide of the Kashmiri Pandits.
"It is my humble request to PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the investigations into the genocide of our Kashmiri Hindus is opened. People like Farrukh Bitta and the politicians that allowed for the genocide to happen cannot be allowed to roam in Kashmir freely," said Rodrigues.
In 2017, the Supreme Court had rejected a petition seeking an investigation into the genocide of the Kashmiri Pandits. The court had said that 27 years had passed since the alleged crimes took place, and it would be impossible to collect evidence after such a long time. The court also said that the demand should have been raised earlier.
A bench of then Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud had said, "You (petitioner) sat over it for last 27 years. Now tell us from where the evidence will come." The petition was filed by NGO Roots in Kashmir.
On Sunday (March 13), the Congress party again tried to whitewash the genocide, saying more Muslims have been killed in the Valley than Kashmiri Pandits and blamed the political opponents for the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits. After the massive protest, the Congress party withdrew some of the tweets.
After the film's release, people are also demanding more such films to bring out the truth about other such genocides in the country. Among others, people are demanding the truth about other such genocides like Hindu genocide in Bengal, Partition, Godhra massacre, Mopla Hindu genocide should also come out.
Many state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, have declared The Kashmir Files tax free. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra ordered the state DGP to grant police personnel one-day special leave to watch The Kashmir Files.
