New Delhi: Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba thanked his counterpart Narendra Modi for evacuating Nepal citizens safely from Ukraine. "Our Nepali nationals have just arrived in Nepal from Ukraine via India," he said in a tweet.
"Thank you Prime Minister @narendramodi and the Government of India for the assistance in repatriating Nepali nationals through the #OperationGanga," he wrote.
The Modi government's 'Operation Ganga' or good Samaritan mission goes international as several stranded South Asians from countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Tunisia have been evacuated and rescued so far.
Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, also thanked her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for rescuing nine Bangladeshi nationals from Ukraine under ‘Operation Ganga’.
Sources said Tunisian students were also rescued under this operation.
Reports said Pakistani girl, Asma Shafique, was rescued by the Indian authorities and was currently on her way to western Ukraine. "She will be reunited with her family soon", a source said.
PM Modi had recently offered help to pull citizens of India's South Asian neighbours and other countries out of Ukraine if they wanted.
In the video made available on social media, the girl is heard expressing her gratitude towards the Indian embassy in Kyiv and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their support. Reports also say that over 600 Indian nationals have left Ukraine’s north-eastern city Sumy.
"I want to thank the Indian embassy of Kyiv for supporting us all the way here as we were stuck in a very difficult situation," the Pakistani girl has said. She also thanked Prime Minister Modi.
