New Delhi: The BJP, on Saturday, Feb 19, linked one of the 2008 Ahmedabad blasts accused and convicts to the Samajwadi Party and questioned the silence of former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav over the matter.

"One of these 49 convicts, Mohd Saif is the son of SP leader Shadab Ahmed. Why is Akhilesh silent over this?" questioned BJP leader and Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur while speaking with the reporters.

Displaying some snaps, he said photos show him with the then CM Akhilesh Yadav. "Did Akhilesh Yadav call him over biryani? His son was the mastermind and involved in the blasts," he said.

"We welcome the judgment by the Court. Quantum of the sentence was pronounced against 49 convicts – 38 were sentenced to capital punishment, 11 to life imprisonment," he said, referring to the special court verdict in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Meanwhile, addressing an election rally in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "If by any chance the cycle govt (Samajwadi Party) comes to power, Uttar Pradesh will supply terrorism all over the country." He said 2,000 farmers died out of hunger when Akhilesh Yadav was Chief Minister.

The first two phases of polls in UP are over while all eyes are on for voting on Sunday, Feb 20, in 59 assembly segments.
