Muslim mob had lynched 17-year-old Rupesh Pandey in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh for participating in Saraswati visarjan.

The Jharkhand police are not allowing the BJP leader Kapil Mishra to leave the Ranchi airport. Mishra has gone to Jharkhand to meet the family of 17-year-old Rupesh Pandey, who was lynched by a Muslim mob on February 6 for participating in Saraswati visarjan. Mishra requested Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to allow him to go to the bereaved family to offer his condolences.

"Why is the Hemant Soren government scared? Why are they not allowing me to leave the Ranchi airport? Rather than catching me, they should catch the criminals," said Mishra.

The Jharkhand BJP criticised Chief Minister Hemant Soren for not allowing Mishra to visit the family of Rupesh Pandey.

"Why is Chief Minister Hemant Soren not allowing Kapil Mishra to visit the bereaved family? Why is he not accepting the demands of the family?" Jharkhand BJP General Secretary Dr Pradip Varma asked.

Muslim mob killed Rupesh on February 6 when he was on his way to participate in Saraswati visarjan. The FIR has 27 names as suspects in the case are all Muslims.

On Sunday, February 6, around 5 in the evening, Rupesh's friends Divakar Kumar Choudhary and Himanshu Kumar asked him to go with them to the Dulmaha Saraswati visarjan. Rupesh agreed and left his workplace in Kariyatpur. The two friends met him on the way to Dulmaha. A large crowd stopped them before reaching their destination. Muhammad Aslam Ansari, aka Pappu Miyan, led the crowd and instigated them to attack Rupesh and his friends.

Aslam, along with Anees and others, brutally attacked Rupesh. The mob included Muslim women. As Rupesh screamed, some people nearby, including Upendra and Mukesh Pandey, came for help. As more locals joined in, the mob dispersed.

"Rupesh was taken to the sub-divisional hospital in Barhi. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival," the FIR read.

Rupesh was the only surviving child of his parents after his elder brother passed away a few years back. The distraught mother of Rupesh is demanding capital punishment for the killers of her son. "Either you bring back my son or hang the murderers," she said.

On February 11, the Jharkhand police registered an FIR against people demanding justice for Rupesh. The FIR has named Alok Kumar, Ankit Pandey, Baijnath Yaduvanshi, Bhavani Roy, Pintu Kumar, Rajkumar, Santosh Kumar, Satish Pandey, Umesh Bharti, Rajesh Ram, Himanshu Gupta, Kanhai Pandey, Rajdeep Pandey and Uttam Pandey, who participated in a candle march in Chatra demanding justice for Rupesh.
