The incident happened on Friday (January 28), two days after Kishan Boliya was murdered by Sabbir and Imtiyaz Pathan in the same region over a Facebook post.

Ahmedabad: Yasin Balochnam barged into the house of Pooja* on Friday (January 28) and allegedly raped her. He also tried to beat her to death but the victim was saved as neighbours broke open the door.

The incident happened in Dhandhuka region of Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

On Tuesday (January 25), Kishan Boliya was murdered by Sabbir and Imtiyaz in the same region over a Facebook post. Of the two Maulavis accused of plotting Kishan’s murder, one has been arrested.

The two back-to-back horrific incidents have sent shock waves in the region. The members of the Hindu community protested in large numbers and demanded swift action in the case.

They also demanded that police take action to ensure such crimes are not repeated.

Pooja* was in her house when Yasin attacked her. Barging into her house, he bolted it from inside. Overpowering the victim he allegedly raped her. When she protested, he badly thrashed her.

The victim kept crying and shouting for help but Yasin had pressed his palms against her mouth. When the neighbours heard the cry for help, they rushed and broke open the door.

Yasin tried to flee but was overpowered by the neighbours. The police were called in and Yasin was handed over to the police.

In the Kishan Boliya case, police have arrested Sabbir, Imtiyaz Pathan and Maulana Mohammad Ayub. The other Mumabi-based Maulana, who is accused of plotting the murder, is absconding. The Gujarat police have formed teams to arrest him.

Kishan had shared a Facebook post on January 6 which had a picture of prophet Mohammed. Accusing Kishan of committing blasphemy, two Maulanas, one from Ahmedabad and the other from Mumbai, plotted his murder and provided gun and bullets to Sabbir and Imtiyaz.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi visited the house of Kishan and assured them of swift justice in the case. Kishan has a 20-day-old daughter.

“After Kishan was murdered, the Ahmedabad police formed separate teams and nabbed the accused within 24 hours. The state government is monitoring the case and is actively working to ensure justice to Kishan…In order to ensure that this case is investigated appropriately, Gujarat ATS and Ahmedabad Crime Branch have been investigating the case from different angles. The government will hire the best lawyer in the state and murders of Kishan will be punished,” state Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi had said after visiting his family on Friday (January 28).

What has surprised many is the fact that the rape incident happened on the same day the state home minister visited Kishan’s family.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has been demanding the arrest of all the accused in the Kishan’s murder case and fast trial in the rape case.

*The name of the victim has been changed to protect her identity.
