Arrested DIG, Rounak Ali travelled abroad nine times without permission from the authorities and also spent 1.74 crores for his two children's education to date.
Guwahati: Jailed Assam police DIG Rounak Ali has movable and immovable property more than 182 times his actual legal income.
The Chief Minister's special vigilance cell of Assam Police on Monday (January 24) submitted a 156-page final supplementary charge sheet against arrested Assam deputy inspector general of police (border) Rounak Ali Hazarika after 109 days of his arrest on huge corruption charges.
CM Vigilance investigating officer Hitesh Thakuria and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) submitted the charge sheet against Hazarika, his wife Nusrat Rounak Hazarika, and another person named Farid Ali, who has huge financial transactions with the arrested police officer.
Rounak Ali Hazarika, who was arrested in a disproportionate assets case on October 5, 2021, is currently lodged in Guwahati central jail and has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Prevention of Corruption Act and Official Secrets Act, 1923.
"Upon completion of investigation, it is found that Rounak All Hazarika had amassed immovable and movable assets which are disproportionate to his known sources of income, which is 182.19 per cent," a statement from the superintendent of police, chief minister's special vigilance cell, Assam, said.
"The prosecution sanction has been accorded and received from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and the order has been submitted before the court," the statement said. Recently President of India accorded consent to prove against the arrested IPS officer Ali. Investigation revealed that DIG Ali possess property worth Rupees 4 crores 99 lakhs in his and his wife's name.
During the SIT inquiry, it was found that Rounak Ali had possessed immovable and movable assets disproportionate to his known sources of income from 1992 to 2021. The arrested DIG had also incurred expenditure to the tune of Rs 1.74 crore as an educational expenditure for his two children to date.
The Assam government had suspended Hazarika in July 2021 for unauthorised visits to foreign countries. He had travelled abroad nine times without permission from the competent authority.
Hazarika was unable to satisfactorily account for how he could amass the resources, cash deposits, cheque deposits in his bank accounts from unknown sources of income.
