The Maoists fled the spot with their slain companions after a fierce gunfight that lasted around 3 hours.
The security forces had busted a Maoist camp in a week-long anti-Naxal operation in Nuapada Odisha, confirmed SP Nuapada on Thursday (January 13).
As per the reports, acting on a tip-off, a search operation was launched on January 7 by the district volunteer force (DBF) and special operation group (SOG) in the dense forest areas of the sunabeda sanctuary. It's been reported that around 9 am on January 9 morning, the security personnel had established contact with the ultras when the latter opened indiscriminate fire upon the forces. The team retaliated sharply, and reinforcement, including CRPF personnel, were sent.
The reinforced personnel had continued the combing operation. On the 12th morning, the ultras again opened indiscriminate firing upon the forces to which the latter had retaliated strongly. It's been reported that the Maoists fled the spot with their slain companions after a fierce gunfight that lasted around 3 hours.
Sharing the details about the incident, SP Nuapada said, "During the operation, four Maoist have been killed, and five of them are suspected to be gravely injured. IEDs planted by the LWE have been found in the whole area. Arrows with poison were also installed to harm the forces."
Forces recovered two solar plants, three mortars shale, codex wire, batteries and medical syringes in large numbers, and some tiffin bombs from the spot confirmed Nupada SP Pratishtha Diwakar.
It should be noted that the Nuapada district, adjoining Mahasamund of Chhattisgarh, is considered a hotbed of the Maoists. But with the help of solid intelligence, the forces have been able to push the red rebels on the back foot. A similar kind of operation was launched in the Patdhara reserve forest of Nuapada district that busted another Maoist camp in December last year.
