West Bengal: The death toll from the Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailment in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district has risen to seven, with 45 others injured, some reported in critical condition.
A railway spokesperson in Guwahati said that 12 coaches of the Assam-bound train derailed and some overturned near Domohani under the Alipurduar division of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) around 5 p.m. on Thursday. According to Jalpaiguri district magistrate Moumita Godara Basu, four bodies were discovered at the accident site, while three others died in the hospital.
According to a railway official in New Delhi, the Commissioner of Railway Safety will investigate the cause of the accident. The rescue operations have been completed, according to a statement released by the NFR in Guwahati. The train had 1,053 passengers on board at the time of the derailment,
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that he is reaching the site early Friday morning. Senior officers and medical teams have already reached at the site of the accident. He further said, PM Modi also been informed focus of efforts is on rescue ops Ex-gratia has been announced soon
The ill-fated train set out late on Wednesday night from Bikaner and was scheduled to arrive in Guwahati early Friday morning.
