India had supplied the second batch of 'humanitarian assistance' on Jan 1, 2022, consisting of 500,000 doses of COVID vaccine (food grains) to Afghanistan.
New Delhi: As part of its ongoing humanitarian assistance to the 'Afghan people', India, on Friday, Jan 7, supplied the third batch of medical assistance consisting of two tons of essential life-saving medicines to Afghanistan. The items were handed over to the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul, an MEA statement said.
"In coming weeks, we would be supplying more batches of humanitarian assistance consisting of medicines and foodgrains to Afghanistan," the statement said.
"India stands committed to continue our special relationship with the people of Afghanistan and provide them humanitarian assistance. In this endeavor, we had recently supplied 500,000 doses of COVID vaccine and 1.6 tons of medical assistance to Afghanistan through the World Health Organization (WHO)," the statement said.
India has always maintained that it will continue to help the crisis-hit common people of Afghanistan.
Sometime back, it was reported that 10 out of 11 of Afghanistan's most densely populated urban areas are now anticipated to be at emergency levels of food insecurity. There are also reports of destitute parents even promising baby girls for future marriage in exchange for dowries. Crippled by drought and economic collapse, Afghanistan is set to become the world's worst humanitarian crisis, experts have cautioned.
