Tamil Nadu Congress Chief K S Alagiri, known for making controversial comments, said all anti-BJP forces firmly opine that the Sanatana dharma should be destroyed along with BJP in the coming polls. Talking to a Tamil youth channel on the sidelines of Congress party's 136th foundation day, Alagiri said, "Bharatiya Janata Party should lose and Sanatana Dharma should be destroyed". He made the controversial comments quoting Lok Sabha MP Thol Thirumavalavan, a known Hindu phobic and crypto Christian. He appealed to Tamil Nadu CM and DMK leader M. K. Stalin to unite all political parties to form an anti-BJP front. VCK chief urged the Congress party to talk to its former leaders heading regional fractions to bring them together so that there is no split in anti-BJP votes. Alagiri justified partnering with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, saying Shiv Sena stands for Hindu and BJP for Hindutva.

Rahul Gandhi made similar comments about "Hindu and Hindutva" at a Jaipur rally, saying while Hinduism seeks truth, Hindutva seeks power. This idea was floated first by Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor, who wrote:" Why I Am A Hindu" in 2018. RS member P. Chidambaram and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh often say they are Hindu but not Hindutvawadis. It is similar to DMK's "we are not against Brahmins but Brahminism".

Former Union Minister, 2G scam fame and DMK MP A Raja said, "As long as Hinduism and a half-inch foot idol of God remain in the country, communism will not gain roots here. How can we bring revolution if we cannot oppose BJP, Hinduism, Saffron? If you are a true Tamil, come out of the Hindu fold immediately and destroy them with lock, stock and barrel. Don't support the religion that categorized you as Sutra and Chandala." Raja, a Crypto Christian, is a known Hindu phobic. He often calls upon like-minded parties to work for the defeat of both BJP and Sanatana Dharma.
