He also said that word ‘Hindu’ does not mean just a religion but a way of life.

Bharat’s identity is of ‘Hindu’ and our atma is also ‘Hindu’ because in Bharat word ‘Hindu’ is a way of life, said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarkaryavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale.

Embrace of different kinds of ideas is the essence of Hinduism, Shri Hosabale added. He was speaking at ‘Kutumb Prabodhan’ in Agra on December 23.

‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ is the root of our existence which not just counts humans of the world as family members but all the other living and non-living things.

In our culture, Moon is not just an element in the galaxy but ‘Mama’ and cat is not just an animal but ‘Mausi’, he said. Explaining how embracing Hinduism is, he said that there are many families in Bharat where Shaivites and Vaishnavites are found under the same roof.

Family is the smallest unit of the country and we learn our sanskar in the family and the same sanskaras are imbibed in us forever, Shri Hosabale said.

Bharat contributed to the world the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Yoga and Ayurveda.

Bharatiya civilisation has been talking about oneness and environment protection for ages and our Rishi-Munis not only preached such concepts but also lived it.

“Today, the world is embracing each other’s ideas and a new man is emerging, this is the essence of Hinduism. You have to take the best of everything from every corner and mould it to suit your surroundings, your environment,” Shri Hosabale said.

Explaining how evolution is ingrained in the Bharatiya tradition, Shri Hosabale said that there is no full stop in Bharatiya tradition and it keeps evolving to suit the need of the day and time. The uniqueness of our culture is that it is very dynamic and embracing.

Even the Hon’ble Supreme Court, in its famous 1995 judgment, had said that “Hindutva was not a religion, but a way of life and a state of mind.”

Many attempts were made to distort it but it survived and flourished.

Earlier, RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat ji had said, “It’s Indian culture and Hindutva which believe in working with other schools of thought. All people living in India are Hindu in terms of identity and nationality.”

Many vested interests try to closet ‘Hinduism’ by saying it’s a religion like any other which is simply not true. In Bharat, ‘Hinduism’ is a way of life, tradition and culture. It’s concept can not be limited to just one aspect.
